RV Holding Tank 101
1) For the best odor control, it is critical that you try to maintain the liquid level, so that the solid waste ALWAYS remains beneath the liquid level. This allows the toilet deodorant to effectively kill the odor causing bacteria in the waste, thus eliminating any malodors within the RV holding tank.
2) When charging the tank, make sure that you add at least 3 inches of water at the bottom of the tank (as a general rule add water until the 1/3 light is lit on your tank guage) prior to adding the toilet deodorant. Use 1 ounce per gallon of water, with the maximum charge of 4 ounces of deodorant into a maximum quanitity of 5 gallon of water. If too little toilet deodorant is added, you will not achieve the best odor control and the bacteria have the potential to grow, creating possible odors within the vehicle.
3) NEVER mix two toilet deodorants in the holding tank. Always thoroughly clean the tank prior to changing products. Mixing products can possibly cause a chemical reactions, resulting in problems within tank, as well as potential problems with the fittings and seals. NEVER add any household cleaning products such as bleach to the holding tank. It will react with the toilet deodorant, making it ineffective.
