I had my RV dealer install my Air Force One brake system on my new Ford Explorer, along with tow brackets. Everything went well, I have only towed car home after install, but everything worked very well. Mellott Brothers was impressed with system and said that they would recommend to others.

SMI AFO Install

I recently purchased the SMI AFO supplemental braking system. I installed the equipment myself on my Honda Fit and my Tiffin coach. Both installs were explained in the documentation and the video received. My background is in aircraft maintenance and I understand mechanics well, but I still contacted the tech support for assurance that what I was doing was correct. I would put the difficult rating at a solid 6.5 for install and I probably spent seven hours on the car install and another 5 on the coach. The car install was very tight, but doable. I decided to accomplish the install myself after reading the instructions and determining that the most work was the car and not the coach. Initial checkout was a breeze and simple to accomplish.

The perfect braking system

Positives: Truly proportional braking, maintenance free, fits all vehicles, protects RV’s air supply if an issue occurs, improves stopping distance considerably. Negatives: Involves about 4-6 hours of installation time. Summary: We love this braking system! If your RV has air brakes and you plan to tow more than a few times a year, look no further, this is the system you need to purchase. We have had this in evaluation for 4 years and it has performed flawlessly. The towed vehicle brakes proportionally with the rv, you would never know the vehicle is back there when it comes to braking. Connecting and disconnecting the system when towing is fast and very easy, simply plug in the air hose which has quick connect fittings, connect breakaway landyard and plug in electrical cable. The only coomponent that is inside the vehicle is the small air cylinder that activates the brake pedal, once installed you will never know it is there. Most of your time on the installation is spent running hoses and wires to the specified locations.
