Not to mention making your meals inside your motorhome can be a convenient way to add heat, something you obviously avoid in the summer. But even if you do tend to use your RV only during the warmer months, there will be times where you’ll want to prepare food in the kitchen. Using your RV’s kitchen area can be a different experience compared to using the one you have at home. Things like storage space and practicality become even more important. There are plenty of ways to make the most out of the space you do have. Here is a guide to some handy RV kitchen accessories you’ll want to have on hand.

Before we get into what accessories you might need, here are a few things to keep in mind as you’re looking to stock and use your RV’s kitchen. First, try to use items that can have multiple purposes. If you’re using up valuable storage space for an item that only can do one thing, really think about how important having that item is and how often you’ll use it. Speaking of storage space, obviously you’ll want your kitchen items to take up as little room as possible. Things like collapsible or foldable items, things that are flat, or nesting items can all go a long way toward making the most of your available space. Get creative with how and where you store items. Maybe there’s a gap in-between cabinets and walls that can be used to store a cutting board. Maybe you can try storing things vertically, by hanging items on walls, on the fridge, under cabinets, or even overhead. If there’s items you won’t be using as much, don’t be afraid to store them somewhere else in your RV besides the kitchen area. Besides storage, there are other areas to keep in mind as well. Avoid having breakable items, such as glassware or breakable dishes, as you never know when a bump in the road may cause things to fall off the shelves. Using stove and sink covers can add to your counter space when you’re prepping for a meal. Depending on the size of your motorhome, appliances made for RV use may be smaller than their at-home counterparts, which is something else to consider when cooking in your RV.

Some examples of RV kitchen accessories you may not think of include refrigerator and cabinet bars. Driving down the road can jostle items around, so to prevent items from falling off the shelves, cabinet and refrigerator bars can help keep your things secure. Over cabinet door racks can create additional storage space behind your cabinet door. If you want less clean up after a meal and want to use disposable plates and bowls, you can make use of under cabinet dispensers rather than stacking them on your counter or in cabinet. A wall mount trash can keeps your trash can off the floor. Using a knife holder such as the Camco knife safe makes sure your cutlery is secure. Put a drawer underneath a cabinet or even the dinette table with an Add-A-Drawer kit. A flexible cutting mat or dish drainer can roll up for easier storage when not in use.

These are just a few of the items available to make things easier when you prep and cook meals in your RV kitchen. There are plenty of kitchen products designed specifically for RV use. With a little ingenuity, you can get as much out of your kitchen space as you would at home, despite the smaller area.
