Additional Product Information
- The auto-connect system is designed as an add-on or aftermarket device. This will change the industry standard on how you electrically connect to your fifth wheel.
- It is forward/backward compatible, a trailer with our system can be towed with a hitch that does not have our system or a hitch with our system can tow a trailer that does not have it.
- The 5th wheel auto connect system takes advantage of the fact that the physics in a fifth wheel application dictates there is only one degree of freedom (yaw) between the trailer pin box and the hitch wear plate - the other two degrees of freedom (roll and pitch) are fixed between the tow vehicle and the trailer.
- The system automatically mates the electrical connection during most applications of the normal hooking up process. The connector only has to be oriented to within approximately +/- 20 degrees of the tow vehicle’s angle of approach and it will then self-guide to make the connection as the hitch/trailer completes the normal hooking up process.
- It does NOT modify the standard mechanical interface between the king pin and the hitch in anyway.
- It eliminates the trailer power cable from dangling down into the bed of the tow vehicle or over the tailgate to the bumper – a safety and convenience issue.
- It has increased safety relative to the conventional way of making the electrical connection in that the connector is spring loaded with a stainless steel spring that keeps constant force between the male and female connector. Also, it is virtually impossible for the connection to accidentally de-mate as long as the trailer is mechanically hitched to the tow vehicle.
- Eliminates forgetting to mate or de-mate the connection - it is automaticas part of the normal hook-up and unhook process.
- It is visual, you can tell at a glance that the connection is made.
- The system is perfect for mounting popular roll and pitch level devices to assist in parking and setting up.
- Installs in approximately 2 hours, depending on hitch and trailer models
