What is a Shoreline Reel®?
Shoreline Reels®
were developed by TDI Products in response to a growing
demand for affordable and compact power cord and hose reels
for the RV industry.
What types of reels are offered?
Currently TDI Products offers several versions of the
Shoreline Reels®
to cover the RV industry. There are versions for 50 amp
power cords, 30 amp power cords and water supply hoses (both
potable and dirty water).
How are these reels different from other reels on the
market?
Shoreline Reels®
were specifically designed for Recreational Vehicles. The
motorized reels feature a design that allows the motor to be
mounted in the center of the reel drum. This unique design
not only allows for the compact size but also reduces the
manufacturing cost associated with the reel. We also offer
a complete line of hand crank hose and cord reels for RV's.
How do the reels operate?
All Shoreline Reels®
operate in the same manner. The power cord or hose free
spools off the reel. Power cord and hose retrieval is
accomplished by pushing a switch, which powers the reels 12
VDC motor. The switches are of the rocker type so the unit
can not be inadvertently left on. These switches are
available from TDI Products. For the hand crank reel you
turn the handle to pull in the cord or hose.
What Motor Coaches can use Shoreline Reels®?
Virtually all motor coaches can use the Shoreline Reel®.
Whether you have 50 amp power service, 30 amp power service
or are looking for a water supply hose reel the only
consideration is what compartment will most conveniently
contain the reel.
Are the reels third party certified?
Yes. Shoreline Reels®
are UL Listed. They are listed for use in RV's in
accordance with NEC and UL 355. UL 355 is the UL standard
for cord reel certification. In addition the water hose
reels are UL Listed as a Portable water system.
What regulatory requirements apply to power cord reel?
National Electric Code (NEC) article 551 is the primary
regulatory requirement for RV cord reels. This requires all
sources of AC power to be listed for use in RV's and to be
installed in accordance with the terms of the listing. In
addition the NEC specifies the required minimum length of
the power cord.
What is the NEC requirement for minimum cord length?
NEC article 551- 46 section (a) subsection 2b states the
cord exposed length measured from the point of entry on the
vehicle exterior, shall be a minimum of 25 feet where the
point of entrance is at the side of the vehicle, or shall be
a minimum of 28 feet where the point of entrance is at the
rear of the vehicle.
Where the cord entrance into the vehicle is more then 3
feet above the ground, the minimum cord lengths shall be
increased by the vertical distance of the cord entrance
heights above 3 feet.
How big are the reels?
50 amp motorized cord reel with 34 feet of cord:
12x14x16.
50 amp hand crank cord reel with 34 feet of cord:
13x14x17.
30 amp cord reel with 40 feet of cord: 9x12x11.5.
30 amp hand crank cord reel with 34 feet of cord:
7.5x11x13.
Motorized hose reel with 40 feet of ½" inch hose:
10x11x12.
Hand crank hose reel with 34 feet of ½" inch hose:
7.5x11x13.
Black/gray water series with 20 feet of 3/4" hose:
10x11x13 (Hand crank: 9x11.5x13).
*Please note these dimensions are approximate and subject
to change.
How much does the power cord reel weigh?
The 50 amp power cord weighs 22 pounds.
The motorized 50 amp cord reel with 36 feet of cord
weighs 50 pounds.
The hand crank 50 amp cord reel with 36 feet of cord
weighs 43 pounds.
The 30 amp cord reel with 45 feet of cord weighs 30
pounds.
The hand crank 30 amp cord reel with 36 feet of cord
weighs 23 pounds.
*Please note these weights are approximate and subject to
change.
How much does the hose reel weigh?
The hose reel weighs 15 pounds.
The motorized hose reel with 45 feet of hose weighs 20
pounds.
The hand crank hose reel with 33 feet of hose weighs 12
pounds.
*Please note these weights are approximate and subject to
change.
What type of floor is required to hold the power cord reels?
For the power cord reels common plywood flooring is
strong enough to support the reels. If flooring is
galvanized steel a minimum of 14 gauge is recommended.
If the flooring is not a minimum of 14 gauge the use of a
doubler is required. If you have a plastic floor a doubler
will be required. The plastic floor doubler will have to be
determined by the rib spacing in the floor. This is
required due to the weight of the cord on the reel.
What type of flooring is required for the hose reels?
The hose reel can be mounted to any standard floor
without additional doublers.
Are there any guides required for the power cord reels?
YES. If the power cord is going to exit through the floor
we recommend installing our under coach roller guide. The
guide bolts to the bottom of the coach and keeps the cord
from rubbing on the floor and floor port.
The guides are $20 and allow you to walk with the cord
without resistance. However, if the cord reel is not going
to be located on the floor and exit the motor coach via the
floor porthole, other installation configurations are
acceptable. Please consult TDI Products technical support.
Is the location of the porthole relative to the power cord
reel important?
YES. Since the porthole acts as a guide for the floor
exiting cords its location is important to insure proper
cord retrieval.
How do you know where to locate the porthole relative to the
cord reel?
Templates containing the footprint of the cord reel and
location of the porthole are provided with the units. These
templates show the location of the mounting screws for the
reel and the hole for the porthole. This allows all the
holes to be predrilled prior to installing the cord reel.
Are any guides required for the water hose reels?
NO. The hose reels are designed to allow the operator to
guide the hose onto the reel. For this reason we do not
recommend locating the hose reel behind a wall with only the
hose protruding through the wall.
Are installation manuals and training available?
YES. The installation is very straightforward and
standard installations are easily completed following the
manual. In addition we offer on-site training for OEM's and
dealers.
Can the RV be Hi-Pot tested through the cord reel?
YES. NEC section 551-60 requires the completed RV to be
Hi-Pot tested for electrical breakdown for 1 minute, 900
volt dielectric strength or 1 second, 1080 volt dielectric
strength test. Since we test each reel to 3KV for one
minute the overall RV Hi-Pot test can be performed after the
reel is installed without damage to the reel.
What is the warranty period for the reels?
All Shoreline Reels®
are backed by a 2 year warranty. The warranty is valid from
the date of installation providing the warranty registration
card is returned by the customer.
If the warranty registration card is not submitted by the
customer, the warranty will be valid from the date of
manufacture.
