LP regulators reduce the high pressure in your propane tank (up to 200+ PSI) down to the low pressure your RV appliances need (typically 11 inches water column, about 0.4 PSI). A failed or improperly sized regulator can cause appliances to underperform, produce yellow flames, or create dangerous overpressure conditions.

Regulator types

• Single-stage regulators: One pressure reduction step. Simple and common on small systems.
• Two-stage regulators: Reduce pressure in two steps for more consistent output, especially in cold weather.
• Automatic changeover regulators: Connect two tanks and automatically switch to the reserve when the primary empties. An indicator shows which tank is in use.
• High-pressure regulators: For appliances that need higher pressure than standard (some grills and heaters).

Key specifications

• BTU capacity: Regulator must supply enough BTUs to run all your appliances at once. Add up furnace, water heater, stove, and fridge BTU ratings.
• Inlet connection: POL (older style) or ACME/QCC1 (newer style with hand-tightening).
• Outlet connection: Usually 3/8-inch flare for RV pigtails.
