Spy Hunt Story: Full Rules

Spy Hunt Story is a collaborative game where your family creates a story together, but here's the twist: you can only continue the story when someone spots the right object outside the RV/car windows. It's part imagination, part observation game, and 100% guaranteed to keep little eyes glued to the windows instead of screens.

1) Start the adventure. The oldest player (or a parent) opens with a one-liner:

• “A brave raccoon needed to find…”
• “A magical school bus was headed to…”
• “Our superhero family lost their pet dragon and must find…”

2) Call out the quest. Choose what to spot next: a color, number, type (shape/size), or category (animal/vehicle, etc.).

3) Eyes on the road. First to see it shouts it (“RED BARN!” “THREE COWS!” “ROUND WATER TOWER!”).

4) Continue the story. The spotter adds one sentence, then picks the next quest. End when it feels complete or when you arrive.

• “A brave raccoon needed to find a RED BARN” winners new sentence and now the raccoon needs to fill the barn with "find animals"
• “A magical school bus was headed to THREE COWS” winners new sentence and then the bus turned at "find a sign"
• “Our superhero family lost their pet dragon and must find a ROUND WATER TOWER”winners new sentence and the dragon turned "find blue"

Age Tweaks

Ages 3–5	Ages 6–10	Mixed Ages
Stick to colors/easy objects; pointing or single words count. Co-narrate to help.	Add categories: starts-with letter, alive/not, slower than us, man-made. Optional silly rules: rhyme, funny voice, include a target word.	Alternate easy/hard rounds; pair littles with bigs; assign “specialties” (animals, colors, vehicles).

Optional Scoring (keeps it snappy)

• +1 point for each correct spot; +1 bonus for an especially creative sentence (group vote).
• First to 7 wins that “chapter.” Tie-breaker: 30-second Speed Round-fastest valid spot wins.

Pro Tips for RV Families

• Best times: scenic stretches, post-lunch slump, last hour before arrival.
• Keep it fresh: cap stories at 10–15 min; run 2–3 short chapters.
• No-view backup: switch to Sign Mode-spot letters/words on signs (starts-with, colors on logos, license plates), then resume regular play.
• Make it memorable: voice-memo a great story; jot a highlight in your trip log; snap photos of “story objects.”
