Long awning rollers sag in the middle over time as fabric weight and road vibration take their toll. The Carefree 902800W cradle supports the roller at its weakest point -- automatically, with no levers or manual adjustments required. It engages when you roll up and swings clear when you extend, so your awning fabric stays protected and your roller stays true.
A sagging awning roller puts uneven stress on the fabric, the end caps, and the drive mechanism. On longer awnings -- typically anything over 12 feet -- the center of the roller can deflect noticeably under the weight of a vinyl or acrylic fabric, especially after years of use. This cradle clamps to your RV wall or awning rail and cups the roller from below, keeping it straight across its full span.
The automatic design means the cradle engages by itself when the awning rolls up, locking the roller in the supported position. When you extend the awning, the cradle pivots open and gets out of the way -- no reaching up, no latches, no manual levers. The contact surface is designed to be gentle on awning fabric so the tube can rotate without scuffing or tearing the material.
Cradle locks onto the roller when you roll up the awning and pivots clear automatically when you extend it -- zero manual steps required.
Designed to fit awning rollers from all major RV awning brands, including Carefree, A&E, Dometic, and Solera. No brand-specific adapters needed.
Once installed, the cradle does its job passively. You do not need to re-tension or re-adjust the roller after each use.
The cradle cup is contoured and smooth to cradle the roller tube without cutting or abrading the awning fabric as it passes through.
The support cradle mounts to the side of the RV between the two awning arms. A bracket anchors to the coach wall or awning rail, and the cradle arm hangs below the roller tube when the awning is extended -- completely out of the way. As you retract the awning, the roller descends into the cradle cup, which then locks in place to bear the roller's weight throughout storage and travel. When you hit the button or pull the strap to extend, the cradle releases and swings down, clearing the path for the fabric to unroll freely.
The 902800W includes one support cradle and all mounting hardware needed for installation. Mounting typically involves drilling a small pilot hole and fastening the bracket to the coach sidewall, centered along the awning span. Carefree provides a dedicated installation instruction sheet -- a PDF is linked on this product page for reference.
The 902800W is finished in white to blend with white awning hardware and light-colored coach sidewalls. If your rig has a black awning rail or dark trim, Carefree also offers this same cradle in black -- see part number 902800 (sold separately at SKU 26-2198 on this site).
