Most 4-wheel drive trucks, and some 2-wheel drive trucks, come from the factory with inner side plates already welded to the frame. If your truck's frame doesn't have those plates in place, you'll need a supplemental kit like the GNXA817 to complete your GNRC817 mounting kit installation properly.
The inner side plates work alongside the outer side plates included with your mounting kit, sandwiching the truck frame from both sides for a strong, secure attachment point for your gooseneck hitch.
