CURT Mfg Custom Fit No-Splice Install CURT 56292 Custom Fit Trailer Wiring Harness

Stop fighting with universal wiring kits. The CURT 56292 is a vehicle-specific trailer wiring harness engineered to plug directly into your tow vehicle's existing factory connectors -- no wire cutting, no splicing, and no guessing which wire carries which signal. It delivers clean, reliable trailer lighting integration the way it should be done.

Plug-In Trailer Wiring Done Right

CURT's custom fit wiring harnesses are designed around the exact factory wiring architecture of specific vehicle makes and models. The 56292 uses a T-one connector design that taps into the OEM tail light circuit at the vehicle's factory harness plugs. There is no butt-splicing into live wires and no risk of voiding your vehicle's electrical warranty by cutting into factory loom.

The harness incorporates a built-in circuit protection module that isolates your tow vehicle's electrical system from the trailer. This prevents feedback from trailer lighting loads -- LED or incandescent -- from triggering dashboard warning lights or confusing the vehicle's body control module, a common issue when using generic universal harnesses on late-model vehicles.

No-Splice T-One Design

Plugs directly into factory wiring connectors at the tail light assembly. Zero wire cutting required for a stock-look installation.

Built-In Converter Module

Integrated converter isolates trailer circuit from vehicle electronics, protecting BCM and preventing false fault codes on modern vehicles.

4-Flat Trailer Connector

Terminates in a standard 4-pin flat connector compatible with the vast majority of utility trailers, boat trailers, cargo trailers, and RV tow dollies.

Weather-Resistant Construction

Connectors and wiring are built to handle road spray, moisture, and temperature cycles -- critical for tow vehicles that see regular trailer use.

What Is a T-One Connector Harness?

Unlike universal 4-wire kits that require you to splice into the vehicle's tail light wires with T-taps or solder joints, CURT's T-one harnesses use a pass-through plug design. You unplug the factory connector at the tail light, insert the CURT harness in-line, and plug the factory connector back into the harness. The tail lights continue to function exactly as stock. The harness simultaneously reads those signals and converts them for the trailer's 4-flat output.

This matters especially on trucks, SUVs, and minivans built after approximately 2010, where the BCM actively monitors tail light circuit resistance. A direct wire tap can cause the BCM to detect a load anomaly and illuminate a trailer fault warning -- even when no trailer is connected. The CURT converter module eliminates that problem entirely.

Clean OEM-Style Install

The 56292 harness is engineered to tuck neatly into the factory bumper and tail light area. The 4-flat connector end can be routed to rest near the hitch receiver, keeping your tow vehicle looking factory-finished when the trailer is disconnected.

Supported Trailer Lighting Functions

The 4-flat connector on the 56292 carries the four standard trailer lighting circuits required for legal road towing in all 50 states and Canada:

  • Left turn / brake signal -- yellow wire
  • Right turn / brake signal -- green wire
  • Running / tail lights -- brown wire
  • Ground -- white wire

This wiring configuration is sufficient for all standard single-axle and tandem-axle trailers that do not require electric brakes or a 12V auxiliary power feed. Trailers with electric brakes require a 5-flat or 7-way connector and are not served by this harness alone.

LED and Incandescent Compatible

The converter module in the 56292 is compatible with both LED and incandescent trailer lighting. LED trailers draw significantly less current, which can cause "hyperflash" or no-light conditions on vehicles expecting a minimum load. CURT's module handles this without requiring external load resistors in most applications.

Where the 56292 Fits in the CURT Lineup

CURT produces hundreds of custom fit T-one harnesses, each engineered for a specific vehicle application. The 56292 is one model in this broad family. All share the same plug-in, no-splice architecture and 4-flat output. If you are unsure whether the 56292 is the correct harness for your specific year, make, and model, verify fitment using CURT's vehicle selector or the fitment data on this product listing before ordering. Installing the wrong custom harness will result in connectors that do not mate with the factory plugs.

Installation Tips
  • Disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal before handling tail light connectors on vehicles with active BCM monitoring.
  • Route the 4-flat pigtail along existing factory wiring runs using zip ties -- do not allow it to contact the exhaust system or moving suspension components.
  • Apply dielectric grease to the 4-flat connector before first use to prevent corrosion at the trailer plug interface.
  • Test all four trailer lighting functions with a trailer or test light before the first tow.
  • Coil and stow the 4-flat connector using the provided clip or a hook when no trailer is attached to prevent connector damage and moisture intrusion.
Not for Electric Brake Trailers

The 4-flat connector carries no brake controller output wire. If your trailer is equipped with electric drum or disc brakes, you will need a 7-way blade connector and a separate brake controller wiring harness. The 56292 is designed for lighting circuits only.

Important Information -- Read Before Ordering
  • The CURT 56292 is a vehicle-specific harness. Confirm your exact year, make, model, and trim level match the listed fitment before purchasing. Connectors will not mate correctly if this harness does not correspond to your vehicle.
  • This harness provides 4-flat (4-pin) trailer lighting output only. It does not support electric trailer brakes, 12V auxiliary power, or reverse/backup lighting circuits.
  • Do not use this harness to power accessories or devices other than trailer lighting. Overloading the trailer output circuit can damage the converter module and trip vehicle fuses.
  • Route wiring away from exhaust components, sharp edges, and moving suspension or drivetrain parts. Chafing or heat damage to the harness is not covered under warranty.
  • If your vehicle displays a trailer light fault warning after installation, verify all factory connectors are fully seated and that the converter module ground connection is secure to clean bare metal.
  • The 4-flat connector is not rated for submersion. Boat trailer users should disconnect and stow the connector before backing the trailer into the water.
