Protect a single Group 24 battery from compartment debris, vibration, and corrosion damage while routing hazardous hydrogen gas safely out of enclosed storage areas. Built for RV and marine use with an external vent kit included.
The Camco 55371 is a vented standard battery box engineered to house one Group 24 lead-acid battery in an RV compartment, boat storage bay, or utility enclosure. The box surrounds the battery on all sides, keeping it from shifting during travel while containing any acid spills or corrosion byproducts inside the case.
What sets the 55371 apart from a basic open-top tray is its external venting capability. Lead-acid batteries -- including flooded wet-cell and AGM types under charge -- can off-gas hydrogen, which is flammable in confined spaces. This box includes vent fittings that connect to tubing routed outside the compartment, letting you safely discharge those gases to open air rather than letting them accumulate.
Sized specifically for Group 24 batteries -- a common choice for RV house banks and marine trolling motors.
Vent fittings included route off-gas hydrogen away from enclosed compartments, reducing fire and explosion risk.
Raised interior floor and sealed walls contain electrolyte spills and corrosion runoff inside the box.
Heavy-duty polypropylene shell resists acid, UV exposure, road vibration, and temperature extremes.
Standard open battery trays do nothing to contain off-gassing. The Camco 55371 channels hydrogen through a vent tube to the outside of the compartment. This is especially important in sealed RV underbelly bays and boat compartments where gas can accumulate to dangerous concentrations.
The 55371 is compatible with standard flooded wet-cell Group 24 batteries. It also physically fits many Group 24 AGM batteries, though AGM types recombine gas internally and produce far less off-gassing under normal conditions. Always verify your battery's physical dimensions (approximately 10.25 x 6.8 x 8.9 inches for a standard Group 24) against the box interior before purchase.
