Camco 50 Amp Part No. 55512 Camco Power Grip Locking Electrical Adapter -- 50 Amp, 18-Inch Dogbone

The Camco 55512 bridges the gap between 50-amp locking-style outlets -- common on generators, marine pedestals, and industrial power sources -- and standard 50-amp RV shore power cords. The 18-inch dogbone cord gives you enough slack to make a clean, strain-free connection, and the Power Grip molded handles make plugging and unplugging straightforward even in tight pedestal boxes.

Connect Your 50-Amp RV Cord to a Locking Power Source

Many portable generators, marina power pedestals, and commercial campsite hookups use a locking-style 50-amp outlet rather than the straight-blade NEMA 14-50 receptacle built into most RV power cords. Without an adapter, you simply cannot plug in. The Camco 55512 solves that with a locking male plug on one end and a NEMA 14-50 female receptacle on the other, connected by a flexible 18-inch cord.

This is a pure plug-style adapter -- it does not step up or step down voltage, and it does not limit or boost available amperage. Whatever the source supplies at 50 amps is what reaches your coach. Think of it as a physical translator between two 50-amp connector standards.

Power Grip Handles

Camco's oversized molded handles give you a firm, controlled grip when connecting or disconnecting under load -- reducing stress on both the adapter body and the outlet.

18-Inch Dogbone Cord

The flexible cord keeps the adapter from acting as a rigid lever against the outlet face, protecting both connectors and the pedestal housing from mechanical stress.

Dual-Voltage Rated

Rated for 125/250V systems, matching the full operating range of 50-amp RV electrical systems that carry two 120V legs for a combined 240V capacity.

Generator and Marina Ready

Specifically useful for connecting to 50-amp locking generator outlets and marina-style locking pedestals where straight-blade 14-50 receptacles are not available.

What Is Included

  • 1x Camco 55512 adapter cord, approximately 18 inches in length
  • 50-amp locking male plug (one end)
  • 50-amp NEMA 14-50 female receptacle (other end)

No additional cables, adapters, or accessories are included.

Keep It in Your Electrical Kit

Full-timers and boondockers who travel between campgrounds, marinas, and generator hookups will encounter locking 50-amp outlets regularly. Keeping the 55512 in your RV's electrical kit means you are never turned away from a site due to incompatible outlet styles.

Common Use Cases

  • Connecting a standard 50-amp RV shore power cord to a locking 50-amp generator outlet
  • Adapting marina or boatyard locking pedestals to accept a 14-50 style RV plug
  • Hookup at industrial or commercial sites that use locking-style receptacles as standard
  • Campground pedestals or private property outlets wired with locking connectors
Adapter-Only -- No Amperage Change

This adapter changes only the physical connector style. It does not alter available current. The maximum power delivered to your RV is still governed by the source breaker and your coach's own 50-amp service. Do not attempt to use this adapter to exceed the rated amperage of either the source or the adapter itself.

Buyer Questions Answered

Will this work with my marine locking outlet?

The 55512 is designed for common 50-amp locking connector styles. Before purchase, confirm your marina or generator outlet uses a standard 50-amp locking configuration -- not a 30-amp locking or a proprietary industrial pattern.

Does this adapter reduce available amperage?

No. It is a pass-through adapter. The available amperage at your RV's shore power inlet is determined by the source circuit breaker and the service rating of the outlet, not by the adapter itself.

Is this compatible with 30-amp RV cords?

No. The 55512 is a 50-amp-to-50-amp adapter only. Do not use this adapter with 30-amp cords or outlets. For 30-amp applications, Camco offers separate adapter products designed for that configuration.

Care and Storage Tips
  • Inspect the cord and connectors before each use for cracks, burn marks, or bent pins.
  • Store in a dry location -- a zip bag or dedicated pouch in your electrical compartment works well.
  • Do not coil tightly or store under heavy items, which can stress the cord jacket over time.
  • Wipe contacts dry if exposed to rain or condensation before connecting.

Important Information -- Read Before Use
  • This adapter is rated for 50-amp, 125/250V service only. Do not use with 30-amp or 20-amp outlets or cords.
  • Verify that the source outlet is a standard 50-amp locking pattern before connecting. Non-standard or proprietary locking connectors may appear similar but are not compatible.
  • Never force the plug into an outlet. If resistance is felt, stop and confirm connector compatibility.
  • Inspect the adapter cord, connectors, and pins before each use. Do not use if any component shows burn marks, melting, cracked insulation, or bent pins.
  • The adapter does not provide surge protection or power management. Use of a surge protector or EMS is strongly recommended for protecting your RV's electrical systems.
  • Do not leave connected and unattended during heavy rain without confirming the outlet housing is appropriately weather-protected.
  • This product does not change available amperage. The source circuit breaker and outlet rating govern maximum current delivery.
