The genuine Carefree of Colorado R001581 is a direct-replacement left-side spindle assembly for Carefree slideout cover awning systems. When your slideout fabric no longer rolls or unrolls smoothly and the spindle itself is the culprit, this OEM assembly restores proper operation without replacing the entire roller tube. Weighing just 0.5 lbs., it ships fast and installs with basic hand tools.
Carefree of Colorado slideout awnings use a tensioned roller tube to keep a protective vinyl or acrylic fabric taut against the slideout room. The spindle assemblies anchor the roller tube at each end and manage the rotational interface between the tube and the mounting bracket. Over time -- especially after hard travel seasons or exposure to road grime -- the spindle can wear, crack, or bind, causing the fabric to deploy unevenly or not retract fully.
This is the left-side assembly. If you need the right-side counterpart, verify your application before ordering -- left and right are determined when standing at the rear of the RV facing forward, looking at the slideout from outside.
Direct factory replacement -- part number R001581 -- engineered to Carefree specifications for correct fit and function in Carefree slideout cover systems.
Designed for the left-hand mounting position of the slideout awning roller tube. Not interchangeable with the right-side spindle assembly.
Kit includes one (1) spindle assembly and two (2) mounting screws -- everything needed to complete the spindle replacement at this end of the roller tube.
Manufactured in the United States by Carefree of Colorado and backed by a limited 1-year manufacturer warranty against defects.
This spindle assembly does not contain an internal return spring. Carefree slideout cover systems use a separate spring cartridge or tensioner to manage fabric retraction force. If your awning is failing to retract and the spring mechanism is the cause, this spindle assembly alone will not resolve that issue. Inspect the spring cartridge separately and order the appropriate spring assembly if needed.
Stand outside the RV, facing the slideout room from the street side or curb side. The left side is on your left as you face the slide. Alternatively, many Carefree slideout systems have a label on the roller tube end cap indicating "L" or "R." Check the existing spindle housing for any molded markings before ordering.
Replacement of the spindle assembly typically involves relieving any fabric tension, removing the roller tube from its brackets, sliding out the worn spindle, and installing the new assembly using the two included screws. No special tooling is required beyond basic hand tools. Always relieve fabric tension before disassembling the roller tube ends to avoid injury from a spring-loaded system -- though this part itself contains no spring.
