Protects your trailer's 7-way wiring plug from dirt, bugs, and corrosion when disconnected. Integrated tether keeps the cover attached to the plug while towing — so it's always there when you need it. Molded rubber construction. Trailer-side plug cover. Reduces costly connector replacement.
The 7-way wiring plug on your trailer is exposed to road dirt, insect intrusion, and moisture every time the trailer is in storage or being towed without a connected vehicle — and a corroded or contaminated connector leads to intermittent brake lights, turn signals, or electric brake issues that are frustrating to diagnose and expensive to fix. A plug cover is the simplest, lowest-cost way to prevent the problem entirely.
The Fastway 82-01-3318 takes the plug cover concept one step further with a built-in tether that keeps the cover attached to the plug at all times. Loose plug covers are notorious for getting set down somewhere during hookup and then forgotten, left behind at a campsite, or simply lost — which means the trailer sits unprotected right when it matters most. With the tethered design, the cover hangs from the plug while you're towing, snaps back on for storage in seconds, and is never not there when you need it. Molded from rubber for a snug, weatherproof fit over the 7-pin connector face.
Stays attached to the 7-way plug while towing — always right there when it's time to disconnect and store the trailer
Molded rubber cover seals over the 7-pin connector face to block insects, road grime, and moisture during storage and transport
Covers the male 7-way plug on the trailer — the connector that gets the most exposure to the elements when the trailer is disconnected
A corroded 7-way connector is a common and preventable expense — regular use of this cover helps extend connector life significantly
A 7-way towing wiring system has two connectors that need protection when not in use: 82-01-3318 (This Product) — Trailer-Side Cover: Covers the male 7-way plug on the trailer. This is the connector that dangles exposed from the trailer tongue when the trailer is stored or when you're backing in without the vehicle connected. It's the connector most exposed to insects, road debris, and moisture — and the most commonly corroded. 82-00-3315 — Tow Vehicle-Side Cover: Covers the female 7-way socket/outlet on the tow vehicle (typically mounted to the hitch receiver or bumper). Also uses a tethered design and protects the vehicle-side connector when no trailer is connected. For complete protection of both connectors in your 7-way system, you need one of each. They are sold separately.
Installing the Cover: 1. Disconnect the 7-Way Plug: Unplug the 7-way connector from the tow vehicle 2. Snap Cover onto Plug: Push the molded rubber cover over the 7-pin connector face until it seats snugly — the cover seals around the connector 3. Tether Hangs During Towing: When connected and towing, the tethered cover hangs from the plug out of the way — attached and ready 4. Remove to Connect: Pull the cover off the plug to reconnect to the tow vehicle — the tether keeps it attached to the trailer plug so nothing gets lost Inspect the cover periodically for cracks or deterioration. Replace if the rubber no longer creates a snug seal over the connector face.
