The heavy-duty version of the Flash SSBM — same solid forged steel construction, scaled up for 2-1/2" receivers and Class V towing demands. 6" drop / 5" rise. Includes 2" and 2-5/16" chrome-plated balls. 20,000 lb GTW / 2,000 lb max tongue weight. Glossy powder-coat finish resists rust.
The Fastway Flash SSBM HD is the heavy-duty counterpart to the standard 2" SSBM — built on the same solid forged steel platform, but scaled up for 2-1/2" receivers and the significantly greater towing demands that come with them. Where the standard SSBM (49-00-5600) tops out at 12,000 lb GTW for 2" applications, the SSBM HD steps up to 20,000 lb GTW — a Class V rating that covers even the heaviest bumper-pull commercial and recreational trailers.
Like the standard SSBM, the SSBM HD's defining feature is its solid forged steel shank — not hollow, not welded, but machined from a single piece of forged steel. This makes it the strongest steel ball mount in Fastway's lineup and one of the most durable on the market for commercial and heavy residential towing. The glossy powder-coat finish resists rust in demanding outdoor and fleet environments, and both 2" and 2-5/16" chrome-plated balls are included. At 6" drop and 5" rise, this is the moderate-correction HD model, suited for most HD trucks with standard or lightly modified ride heights.
Not hollow — solid forged steel construction provides maximum bending resistance for the most demanding commercial towing applications
Class V towing capacity — the highest GTW rating in the Flash SSBM family, built for the heaviest bumper-pull trailers
Rust-resistant powder-coat holds up in demanding outdoor and commercial fleet environments while maintaining a sharp appearance
Both 2" and 2-5/16" chrome-plated balls included — ready for the full range of standard bumper-pull coupler sizes out of the box
The Flash SSBM HD 49-00-5625 is a ball mount — it connects your tow vehicle to your trailer and holds the hitch ball securely. It does not provide weight distribution or trailer sway control. At the upper end of this mount's 20,000 lb GTW capacity, tongue weight can place significant stress on the tow vehicle's rear suspension and reduce front-axle traction and steering control. A ball mount alone does not address this. For heavy trailers where tongue weight or sway is a concern, a weight distribution hitch is the appropriate solution. Fastway offers the e2™ Weight Distribution Hitch series for these applications. Always consult your tow vehicle's owner's manual for its maximum tongue weight rating and whether a weight distribution hitch is required before towing at or near rated capacity.
Selecting the correct drop ensures your trailer tows level — especially important at heavy GTW ratings where an unlevel trailer magnifies handling and wear issues. Step 1: Measure your tow vehicle's receiver opening height from the ground — on level ground with the vehicle loaded as it will be while towing. Step 2: Measure your trailer's coupler height from the ground — with the trailer loaded as it will be while towing. Step 3: Subtract the coupler height from the receiver height. The result is your required drop. Example: Receiver at 23" — Coupler at 17" = 6" drop → 49-00-5625 is the correct choice. Note: The 49-00-5625 has a 5" rise when flipped (not symmetrical). If you need more than 5" of rise, consider the 49-00-5925 (10" drop / 9" rise) in the opposite orientation.
Installation Steps: 1. Confirm Drop Size: Measure receiver height and coupler height to confirm 6" drop (or 5" rise when flipped) is correct for level towing 2. Select Ball: Choose the 2" or 2-5/16" ball that matches your trailer's coupler size 3. Insert into Receiver: Slide the solid steel shank into your 2-1/2" hitch receiver 4. Secure with Hitch Pin: Insert the receiver hitch pin and clip through the shank — Fastway's 86-00-4225 Solid Steel Dual Lock Pack is recommended for added security (sold separately) 5. Connect Trailer: Lower your trailer coupler onto the hitch ball and secure the coupler latch 6. Verify Level: Confirm the trailer is riding level before towing Never exceed the rated GTW or tongue weight for the ball mount, hitch ball, receiver hitch, or tow vehicle. For trailers at or near the upper GTW range, verify whether a weight distribution hitch is required.
