Lippert Frame Mount 6-Direction Restraint Lippert Happijac FT-UT9 Frame Mount Tie Down Kit -- Part LIP182910

The Happijac FT-UT9 is a direct-to-frame truck camper tie down system engineered to control camper movement in every direction -- forward, backward, up, down, pitch, yaw, and roll. Unlike simple strap kits that only resist vertical or lateral pull, this system creates an I-beam truss structure using your truck frame as an anchor, delivering a fundamentally stronger connection between cab-over camper and chassis.

Full-Frame Strength, Total Camper Control

Most truck camper tie-down systems rely on the truck bed alone. The Happijac FT-UT9 goes further: its direct-to-frame mounts bolt to the truck frame from above, integrating anchor plates, guide plates, and a stabilizing bar to form a rigid truss that distributes load across the entire chassis. The result is a system that safely counterbalances the pulling weight of the camper while keeping it locked in place on rough terrain, mountain grades, and highway speeds.

Turnbuckles are used at the anchor points to fine-tune tension and create the structural leverage that reduces stress on any single mounting location. This engineering approach is why Happijac systems remain a benchmark reference among serious truck camper owners and full-timers who spend extended time on gravel roads and off-pavement routes.

6-Direction Restraint

Controls forward-backward, up-down, yaw, pitch, and roll -- not just vertical pull like basic strap systems.

Direct Frame Mount

Attaches to truck frame components from above, bypassing the bed floor for a structurally superior anchor point.

I-Beam Truss Design

Combines anchor plates, guide plates, and stabilizing bar to form a truss that shares load across the chassis.

Powder-Coated Steel

Frame mounts are black powder-coated steel for corrosion resistance in all weather and road conditions.

How the Happijac Frame Mount System Works

The FT-UT9 system works in combination with Happijac anchor plates, guide plates, a stabilizing bar, and the truck bed surface. Each component plays a role in the overall truss geometry. The direct-to-frame mounts serve as the primary structural connection, while the anchor plates define the tie-down points that accept the turnbuckle hooks or rings from the camper's tie-down straps or cables. The guide plates keep the camper properly centered in the bed during loading and while underway.

The use of turnbuckles at the anchor points is critical: they allow the operator to pre-tension the system, removing slack and creating a rigid connection before the rig moves. This pre-load is what prevents the micro-movements that cause wear on camper corners, bed rails, and camper jacks over time.

Why Frame-Mount Matters: A frame-mount system transfers camper load directly to the truck's structural chassis members -- the same steel that handles towing, GVWR, and frame flex. Bed-only mounts transfer that same load through the bed floor and bed bolts, which are not designed for continuous lateral and torque loading from a cab-over camper.

Compatible Truck Platforms

The FT-UT9 kit is designed for specific truck platforms where the frame geometry allows direct overhead attachment. Verify your truck year, make, and body style against the fitment list before ordering. This kit does NOT include universal adapters for platforms not listed below.

  • 1997 - 2016 Ford F250 Super Duty and F350
  • 2008 - 2016 Ford F450 Super Duty
  • 1994 - 2002 Dodge Ram (except 2002 Ram 1500)
  • 1988 - 2000 Chevrolet/GMC C/K Series (old body style only)
Body Style Note: The Chevrolet/GMC C/K Series fitment applies to the pre-2001 "old body style" trucks only. The 2001+ Silverado/Sierra new body style uses a different frame profile and is not compatible with this kit.

Installation Overview

The frame mounts attach to the truck frame from above the frame rail. Installation requires access to the frame from under the bed and typically involves removing the bed or working through the wheel well area depending on your specific truck platform. The system is designed to be permanent or semi-permanent -- this is not a load-and-go strap kit. Plan for a full installation session before your first trip.

Installation Tip: Before final tightening, load the camper into the bed and center it on the guide plates. Tighten turnbuckles progressively and evenly, alternating front-to-rear and side-to-side, to avoid racking the camper frame during initial tensioning.
Warranty: This kit is covered by Lippert's limited 90-day manufacturer warranty. Inspect all mounts, turnbuckles, and anchor points before every trip and after any off-road use.

Important Information -- Read Before Ordering and Installing
  • This kit is designed ONLY for the truck platforms listed. Do not attempt to adapt it to unlisted vehicles -- frame geometry differences affect structural integrity.
  • The 2002 Ram 1500 is specifically EXCLUDED from the Dodge Ram fitment range. The 1500 frame profile is not compatible.
  • Chevy/GMC fitment is for 1988-2000 C/K old body style ONLY -- not compatible with 2001+ Silverado/Sierra new body trucks.
  • This is a frame-mount system requiring semi-permanent installation. It is not a removable strap kit. Factor in installation time and access to your truck frame before purchasing.
  • Always inspect all mounting hardware, anchor points, guide plates, and turnbuckles before every trip and after off-road use.
  • This kit is for truck camper use only -- not compatible with travel trailers, fifth wheels, or other tow-behind applications.
  • Warranty is limited to 90 days from date of purchase per Lippert manufacturer policy. Retain your receipt.
  • Anchor plates, guide plates, and stabilizing bar may be sold separately depending on kit configuration -- confirm what is included in your specific order before installation.
