Lippert / Kwikee Part No. 369299 Made in the USA Kwikee 369299 Small Magnetic Door Sensor for 32 Series Electric Steps

When your Kwikee 32 Series electric steps stop retracting or extending with the door, a failed magnetic door sensor is often the culprit. This genuine Lippert replacement sensor restores proper door-triggered operation and includes everything you need for a direct swap -- no splicing or fabrication required.

Direct Replacement for Kwikee 32 Series Step Sensors

The Kwikee 32 Series is one of the most widely used electric entry step systems in towable and motorized RVs. The magnetic door sensor is a critical part of that system -- it signals the step controller to extend when the door opens and retract when it closes. Over time, the sensor body, magnet, or lead wires can fail due to vibration, moisture exposure, or wiring fatigue.

This Lippert 369299 sensor is a direct, OEM-sourced replacement for the original 905323000 door switch used on 32 Series steps. It is also cross-referenced under Jayco part number 0158878 and Thor part number 0116214, making it the correct service part for a wide range of coach brands that left the factory with Kwikee 32 Series steps installed.

Normally Open Circuit

Sensor rests as an open circuit. When the door magnet aligns with the sensor body, the circuit completes and signals the step controller to respond.

Complete Kit

Includes the sensor body with 19-inch lead wires, the matching door magnet, and mounting screws. Ready to install with basic hand tools.

Multi-Brand Fitment

Cross-listed under Jayco 0158878 and Thor 0116214. If your coach uses Kwikee 32 Series steps, this is your service part regardless of brand.

Made in the USA

Manufactured domestically and backed by a 90-day limited warranty from Lippert Components.

How the Door Sensor Works

The magnetic door sensor is a two-piece reed switch assembly. The sensor body mounts to the door frame; the magnet mounts to the door itself. When the door is closed, the magnet sits adjacent to the sensor, closing the internal reed switch and completing the circuit. When the door swings open, the magnet moves away, the circuit opens, and the step controller receives the signal to extend the steps.

Because this is a passive magnetic sensor with no moving mechanical parts in the switch body itself, failure is usually caused by broken or corroded lead wires, physical damage to the sensor housing, or a lost or demagnetized door magnet. Replacing the complete sensor-and-magnet assembly at once is the recommended approach to rule out all three failure modes in a single service visit.

Kit Includes Everything for the Job
Sensor body with 19-inch pre-attached lead wires, door magnet, and mounting screws are all included. No additional hardware is required for a standard replacement on 32 Series steps.

Diagnosing a Failed Door Sensor

  • Steps do not extend when door is opened, but extend manually or via wall switch.
  • Steps do not retract when door is closed.
  • Steps extend and retract erratically regardless of door position.
  • Visual inspection shows damaged, pinched, or broken lead wires near the hinge area.
  • Magnet is missing from the door edge.

A simple continuity test across the sensor leads with the magnet held in place (circuit should close) and removed (circuit should open) confirms whether the sensor body itself has failed.

Wiring Tip: The 19-inch lead wire length gives enough slack to route cleanly through most door frame channels. Before cutting or shortening, verify your routing path -- extra length is easy to loop and secure; too short requires splicing.

Installation Overview

Installation is straightforward for the DIY RV owner comfortable with basic electrical connections. The sensor body mounts to the door frame with the included screws, and the magnet mounts to the door edge in the corresponding position. Lead wires connect to the existing step controller harness at the door sensor plug. No soldering is required on most installations -- the factory connector is reused.

Before You Order: Confirm your steps are the Kwikee 32 Series specifically. Kwikee also produced the 24, 26, and 34 Series steps, which use different sensor configurations. Check your step controller label or the step mounting bracket for the series designation.
Maintenance Note: After installation, apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the wire connector terminals to resist moisture intrusion. Inspect lead wire routing annually to ensure wires are not being pinched or abraded by door movement.

Important Information
  • This sensor is designed specifically for Kwikee 32 Series electric steps. It is NOT a universal fit for all Kwikee step series -- verify your step model before ordering.
  • The sensor operates as a normally open circuit. Incorrect wiring polarity or a mismatched controller harness will prevent proper operation.
  • Steps must be disabled or powered down before servicing the sensor to avoid unexpected step movement during installation.
  • The included magnet is matched to this sensor. Do not substitute alternate magnets, as field strength affects reliable switching.
  • Lead wires are 19 inches long. Inspect your routing path before installation to confirm adequate length without the need for splicing.
  • This listing covers the sensor assembly only. If the step controller or motor has also failed, those components require separate service parts.
