The Venture slide-out system uses an 18:1 reduction gearbox to multiply motor torque into the force needed to extend and retract slide-out rooms -- sometimes under considerable weight. The reduction ratio means the motor shaft turns 18 times for every one full rotation of the output shaft. This high mechanical advantage is what allows a relatively compact motor to move a heavy slide room, but it also puts cyclical stress on the internal gears over time.
