The Lippert 258548 friction hinge assembly helps hold a compatible RV entry door in position and reduces unwanted movement caused by wind. This is the current-production design and does not include the top- or bottom-mounted screen door attachment found on older versions.
The Lippert 258548 is a six-leaf friction hinge assembly designed to add controlled resistance throughout the travel of a compatible RV entry door. Instead of allowing the door to swing freely, the hinge helps hold it at the selected position for easier entry and exit.
The friction-based design can help prevent the door from moving unexpectedly in moderate wind conditions. Its black finish coordinates with common RV entry door hardware and provides a clean replacement appearance.
This is the current version of Lippert part number 258548. It is not compatible with installations that require the screen door to attach to the hinge at the top or bottom.
Older versions of the 258548 hinge were produced with top- or bottom-mounted screen door attachment provisions. Lippert no longer manufactures that older design, and the current hinge cannot be modified to recreate those attachment points. Carefully compare your existing hinge and screen door mounting configuration before ordering.
Uses a multi-leaf construction to provide controlled resistance throughout the door's movement.
Helps keep a compatible entry door from swinging freely when opened.
Constructed from steel for dependable support in RV entry door applications.
Coordinates with commonly used black RV entry door frames and hardware.
A friction hinge applies resistance as the entry door moves through its swing. This resistance helps the door remain at the selected angle rather than immediately swinging fully open or closed. The hinge does not lock the door in place, and its holding performance can vary depending on wind conditions, door size, alignment, and the condition of the surrounding door frame.
Some RVs were originally equipped with an earlier version of Lippert 258548 that incorporated a screen door attachment at the top or bottom of the hinge assembly. Although the older and current hinges share the same Lippert part number, the current version is not a direct replacement for those earlier screen door configurations. The discontinued older design is no longer available from Lippert.
Use this hinge only when the existing RV entry door and screen door configuration matches the current Lippert 258548 design. Installation requirements can vary by RV manufacturer, door manufacturer, model, and production year, so visual comparison and measurement are recommended before purchase.
