A direct-replacement gear pack for Lippert rack-and-pinion slide-out systems using 2x2 above-floor or through-frame slide-out rails. The 281331 carries the correct 15-tooth spur gear profile for units manufactured October 2013 and later, and it ships as a complete gear pack -- without roll pins, which are a separate purchase. Built in the USA and backed by a limited 1-year manufacturer warranty.
When a slide-out room starts grinding, slipping, or refusing to travel its full distance, the gear pack is often the culprit. The nylon and metal teeth in the gear pack take thousands of cycles of load and can wear, chip, or crack over time -- especially in systems that have seen heavy use or infrequent lubrication. Replacing the gear pack with a genuine Lippert unit restores smooth, consistent movement and prevents further damage to the rack rail.
The Lippert 281331 is engineered specifically for 2x2 above-floor and through-frame slide-out configurations. It is NOT a universal fit -- use it only in systems that match that tube geometry. If your unit was built before October 2013, it likely uses an 18-tooth gear pack (Lippert part 122739) rather than this 15-tooth assembly.
Correct tooth count for 2x2 through-frame and above-floor slide-out systems manufactured October 2013 and later.
Direct replacement that matches original factory specs. No adapting, machining, or shimming required.
Manufactured domestically to Lippert quality standards with materials and tolerances matched to the original assembly.
Matches Grand Design, Heartland, Jayco, and Keystone OEM part numbers -- order with confidence across multiple brands.
Included: Complete gear pack assembly with 15-tooth spur gear. This is a ready-to-install replacement unit.
Not Included: Roll pins are NOT part of this kit. If your roll pins are worn or missing, order them separately before beginning your repair. Attempting to reuse damaged roll pins can cause the gear to walk off the shaft under load.
Lippert updated the gear tooth count in October 2013. Units built before that date use an 18-tooth gear and require a different part number. Installing a 15-tooth gear pack in an 18-tooth application will cause immediate binding and potential rack damage.
If your RV was manufactured before October 2013, order Lippert part 122739 (18-tooth gear pack) instead of this assembly. Check your slide-out data plate or original gear pack tooth count before ordering.
This assembly is sold directly by multiple RV manufacturers under their own part numbers. The following OEM numbers all correspond to Lippert 281331:
Gear pack replacement is a moderate DIY repair. The slide-out room must be fully extended and secured before beginning work. Support the room independently before removing any drivetrain components.
Maintenance Tip: After installation, apply a lithium-based or PTFE slide-out gear lubricant to the rack and pinion before cycling the room. Re-lubricate at least once per season to maximize gear pack life. Avoid petroleum-based greases that can attract grit and accelerate wear.
Also Consider: If the rack rail shows visible wear, chipping, or rust alongside the gear, replace the rack at the same time. Installing a new gear pack into a worn rack shortens the life of the new gear significantly.
