Lippert / Kwikee Part 379147 IMGL Steps -- 2006+ Kwikee IMGL Replacement Step Motor and Screws -- Lippert 379147

When your Kwikee electric steps stop retracting or extending, the motor is usually the culprit. Lippert part 379147 is the factory-correct replacement motor and hardware kit for IMGL-generation Kwikee steps found on most 2006 and newer RV coaches. Drop-in fit with simple gear alignment and three included mounting screws -- no special tools required.

Factory-Correct Motor Replacement for Kwikee IMGL Steps

The Kwikee IMGL (Integrated Motor Gear Linkage) step system became the standard configuration on most coach-style RVs starting in 2006. The 379147 motor is purpose-built for this platform and meshes directly with the existing linkage arm gear -- no adapters, no fabrication. Coaches built in 2005 may have either the pre-IMGL or IMGL design, so confirm your step type before ordering.

This kit includes the replacement motor and all three mounting screws needed for installation. The swap involves aligning the motor output gear with the linkage arm gear, threading in the three bolts, reconnecting the factory wiring harness plug, and securing the wiring. Most experienced DIYers complete the job in under an hour without removing the step assembly from the coach.

Wide Series Compatibility

Fits Kwikee step series 22, 23, 28A, 30, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 38, and 40 -- covering the vast majority of IMGL-equipped coaches.

Gear-Align Installation

Motor output gear lines up directly with the linkage arm gear. Secure with 3 included screws, plug in the connector, done.

Automatic Obstacle Shutdown

Retains the IMGL system's built-in overload protection -- steps retract automatically if they contact an obstacle during deployment.

Hardware Included

Comes with the three mounting screws so you're not scrounging for hardware. Weight: 2.5 lbs. Ready to install out of the box.

What This Motor Fits

The 379147 is designed for IMGL-generation Kwikee steps on 2006 and newer coaches. Per Kwikee's own guidance, this motor will not function correctly on step mechanisms manufactured before 1999. However, field experience has shown occasional exceptions to that cutoff -- inspect your existing motor for the IMGL identifier or compare the gear configuration if you have an older unit.

  • Kwikee Step Series: 22, 23, 28A, 30, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 38, 40
  • Coach model year: 2006 and newer (most models)
  • 2005 coaches: may have pre-IMGL or IMGL steps -- verify before ordering
  • Not compatible with pre-1999 step mechanisms (with rare exceptions)
Cross-Reference Part Numbers
This motor is also sold and referenced under the following part numbers:
- Kwikee cross-reference: 1101428
- AM Equipment: 214-2001 (also listed as 214-1001 on some older references)
- Lippert OEM: 379147
If your step control board or parts book lists any of these numbers, this is the correct motor.

Installation Overview

No special equipment is needed for a standard motor swap on IMGL Kwikee steps:

  • Disconnect the coach 12V power or pull the step fuse before starting work
  • Remove the three existing motor mounting screws and unplug the wiring harness
  • Position the new motor so the output gear teeth mesh with the linkage arm gear
  • Thread in the three included screws and tighten evenly
  • Reconnect the factory wiring harness plug
  • Route and secure wiring away from moving parts
  • Restore power and test deployment and retraction
IMGL vs. Pre-IMGL -- How to Tell
IMGL motors have the gear integrated directly into the motor output shaft and interface with a matching gear in the linkage arm. Pre-IMGL motors use a different mechanical coupling. If your steps were installed before 2005, compare the existing motor housing and gear profile to confirm IMGL compatibility before installing this unit.
Maintenance Tip
While the motor is out, inspect the linkage arm gear teeth for wear or cracking. A worn linkage gear can destroy a new motor quickly. Clean and re-grease the gear teeth and pivot points with a lithium-based grease rated for outdoor use before reinstalling.

Important Information
  • This motor is designed for IMGL-generation Kwikee steps only. Installing it on a non-IMGL (pre-IMGL) mechanism can result in damage to the motor or step linkage.
  • Per Kwikee, this motor will not work on step mechanisms manufactured before 1999. Field exceptions exist, but verify your step generation before purchasing.
  • 2005 coach owners: both IMGL and pre-IMGL steps were installed that year. Identify your step type by inspecting the motor gear and linkage coupling before ordering.
  • Always disconnect 12V power or pull the step system fuse before removing or installing the motor to avoid unintended step movement or electrical shorts.
  • This kit includes the motor and three screws only. Wiring harnesses, control boards, step linkage arms, and treads are sold separately.
  • Inspect linkage arm gears for wear before installing a new motor. A worn drive gear will shorten the life of the replacement motor.
