A direct-fit replacement motor assembly for Power Gear above-floor rack-and-pinion slide-out systems. Built to Lippert's ultra-torque spec with a double output shaft and built-in brake, this motor fits the Lippert teardrop gearbox and crosses directly to Power Gear reference 523823. If your slide-out is slow, stalling, or won't move at all, this is the assembly that gets it running again.
The Lippert 386278 is the correct ultra-torque motor assembly for above-floor rack-and-pinion slide-out mechanisms using the teardrop-style gearbox. This is not a generic motor -- it is engineered to match the mounting bolt pattern, shaft dimensions, and torque output required by the Power Gear platform, and it carries the Lippert part number that has superseded the original Power Gear 523823 in the aftermarket supply chain.
The double output shaft design means both ends of the shaft are accessible, which is a key identifying feature of this assembly. If your current motor has a single shaft, this is not the correct replacement. Confirm your existing gearbox is the teardrop style before ordering.
Note: This assembly does NOT include the output shaft pin. If your application requires the pin, source it separately or confirm your existing pin is reusable.
Both shaft ends are usable, matching the double-shaft teardrop gearbox design used in Power Gear above-floor systems.
Integrated brake holds the slide-out in position when power is removed, preventing drift on grades or uneven sites.
Reverses direction by swapping polarity -- compatible with both positive and negative ground wiring configurations.
Higher torque output than standard replacement motors, suited for larger or heavier slide-out rooms that stress stock-spec motors.
Lippert 386278 directly replaces Power Gear 523823. If your existing motor has the Power Gear part number 523823 on its label, this assembly is the current Lippert-supplied equivalent. Lippert acquired Power Gear and now supplies this motor under the 386278 part number.
This motor is for Power Gear above-floor rack-and-pinion systems only. Key identification points:
If your slide uses a under-floor (through-floor) rack system or a different gearbox profile, this motor may not be the correct fit.
The motor is wired for bi-directional operation by reversing the DC polarity on the two motor leads. It is compatible with both positive-ground and negative-ground coach wiring configurations, which covers the full range of coaches that used the Power Gear above-floor system.
This assembly ships without the output shaft pin. In most service situations the existing pin from the old motor is reusable if it is undamaged. If the pin is worn, sheared, or missing, source a replacement pin before installing this motor. Attempting to run the slide without the pin seated correctly will damage the gearbox.
