Keep your RV or trailer frame working -- and looking -- like it should. Chassis Shield applies as a thin, clinging film that seals bare and painted metal against moisture intrusion, halts active surface rust, and quietly lubricates hinges, slide rails, leveling jack components, and any other metal-on-metal contact points that tend to creak and bind over time.

Stop Rust Before It Stops You

RV and trailer chassis take a beating. Road spray, rain, condensation, and seasonal storage all conspire to eat through protective coatings and start oxidation on exposed steel. Once rust gets a foothold under a slide mechanism, leveling jack, or cross member, it accelerates fast -- and so do repair bills.

Lippert 674806 Chassis Shield is engineered specifically for the steel underbodies and moving components common to RVs, fifth wheels, travel trailers, and utility trailers. The aerosol formula reaches into tight angles, seams, and recessed brackets that brush-on products simply can not coat evenly. A single can covers a meaningful surface area and dries to a film thin enough not to trap dirt or interfere with moving parts.

Rust and Corrosion Barrier

Forms a thin protective film on bare steel, painted, and primed surfaces that resists oxidation from road moisture and seasonal weather exposure.

Water Displacement

Penetrates and displaces water already sitting on metal surfaces, interrupting the rust cycle at the source rather than just coating over it.

Lubrication and Squeak Elimination

Reduces friction on hinges, slide rails, leveling jack shafts, and other steel contact points -- quieting squeaks without attracting excessive dirt.

Aerosol Precision

12 oz pressurized spray can delivers a controlled, even mist into tight chassis angles, brackets, and seams that brushes and rollers can not reach.

Where to Apply Chassis Shield on Your RV

Chassis Shield is most effective when applied to clean, dry metal. Common application points include:

  • Main frame rails and cross members under the RV floor
  • Leveling jack legs, arms, and scissor mechanisms
  • Slide-out room rail channels and support tubes
  • Hitch receiver, ball mount, and coupler hardware
  • Tongue and A-frame on travel trailers and fifth wheels
  • Exposed brake components and axle surfaces (avoid brake friction surfaces)
  • Entry step hinges and folding mechanisms
  • Battery tray and compartment frames
Pro Tip -- Apply Before Storage: Spraying Chassis Shield on exposed chassis steel before winterizing or putting your rig in storage is one of the highest-return maintenance steps you can take. Moisture trapped under a tarp or in an unheated storage unit is a primary driver of off-season rust damage.

Penetrating vs. Coating -- How It Works

Unlike thick rubberized undercoating products, Chassis Shield is a penetrating rust inhibitor. It is not meant to build up a thick layer. Instead, it wicks into micro-surface pores and metal-on-metal contact zones, leaving behind a thin film that blocks oxygen and moisture access at the molecular level. This is why it also works as a lubricant -- the same film that resists rust also reduces friction between sliding and pivoting steel parts.

For surfaces with heavy existing rust scale, wire-brush or sand the worst buildup first. Chassis Shield will slow and inhibit further rust on treated surfaces, but it is not a rust converter and will not chemically neutralize heavy scale the way a dedicated phosphoric acid product would. Use it as a protectant and light penetrant, not as a heavy rust restoration product.

Application Notes: Shake can well before use. Apply in a sweeping motion 8-12 inches from the surface. Allow to penetrate for a few minutes before wiping excess from surfaces where drips would be cosmetically unacceptable. Reapply annually or after pressure washing the chassis.
Heads Up -- Avoid These Surfaces: Do not apply to brake drums, brake rotors, brake pads, or friction disc surfaces. Keep off rubber seals, tires, and plastic trim unless verified compatible. Not a structural coating -- does not substitute for professional frame repair or weld-through primer.
Maintenance Schedule Suggestion: Inspect and reapply Chassis Shield at least once per season -- ideally in early spring after winter road-salt exposure and again before fall storage. Pair with a visual inspection of welds, seams, and any areas where the factory undercoating has chipped or cracked.

Important Information
  • Do NOT apply to brake friction surfaces -- drums, rotors, pads, or shoes. Application to braking components creates a serious safety hazard.
  • Keep away from open flame during application. Contents are pressurized and flammable. Use in a ventilated area.
  • This product inhibits and slows rust on treated surfaces. It does not structurally repair corroded steel or replace damaged frame sections.
  • Not a substitute for rubberized undercoating on raw bare-metal panels requiring heavy protection against stone chips.
  • Shake can well before each use. Do not puncture or incinerate the can, even when empty.
  • Store in a cool, dry location away from heat sources above 120 deg F.
