OEM fuel line hose connector fitting that permanently eliminates the secondary carburetor fuel filter on HGJAA, HGJAB, and HGJAC carburetor gasoline generators per Cummins Onan Service Bulletin 712. One-time installation. Also listed as A026E529. 90-day limited warranty.
The Cummins Onan A029S253 is the OEM fitting used to permanently eliminate the secondary fuel filter on HGJAA, HGJAB, and HGJAC carburetor gasoline generators. It replaces the now-obsolete 149-2659 secondary filter that was originally installed just ahead of the carburetor on these early HGJA-family generators.
Cummins Onan issued Service Bulletin 712 (October 2008) to address this filter's tendency to leak — a condition that can create a fuel leak at or near the carburetor. The bulletin directs that the secondary filter be permanently replaced with this barbed hose connector fitting, eliminating the problematic filter position entirely. The primary fuel filter (149-2341-01), located ahead of the fuel pump, remains in place and continues to be replaced at regular maintenance intervals.
This is a one-time installation. Once the A029S253 fitting is installed, the secondary filter position no longer exists and the fitting does not need to be serviced or replaced.
Issued per Cummins Onan Service Bulletin 712 — the OEM-approved solution to permanently eliminate a secondary carburetor filter known to leak on early HGJA carburetor generators
Install once and done — this fitting permanently replaces the secondary filter position; it does not require future servicing or replacement
Cummins Onan factory fitting — replaces obsolete part 149-2659; also listed as A026E529 (alternate part number for the same fitting)
Applies to carburetor gasoline HGJAA, HGJAB, and HGJAC generators only — not for LP, EFI, or any gasoline models with higher spec letters
Early production HGJAA, HGJAB, and HGJAC carburetor gasoline generators were shipped with a secondary fuel filter (149-2659) located between the fuel pump and the carburetor. This filter has a known tendency to leak — creating a fuel leak risk near the hot carburetor and engine. If your generator still has the original 149-2659 secondary filter installed at the carburetor, Cummins Onan recommends replacing it with this A029S253 line fitting. Check for a small fuel filter directly at or near the carburetor inlet — if present, this is the part to order. The primary fuel filter (149-2341-01) ahead of the fuel pump is unaffected and should continue to be replaced at regular service intervals.
Per Cummins Onan Service Bulletin 712: At the carburetor: Remove the 149-2659 secondary filter and replace it with this A029S253 barbed hose connector fitting. Reconnect the existing fuel hose over the fitting and secure with the hose clamp. At the fuel pump: The primary fuel filter ahead of the pump remains in place. If still showing the old 149-2341 part number, it has now superseded to 149-2341-01 — replace at the next scheduled maintenance interval. Refer to the full Service Bulletin 712 instructions or consult an authorized Onan dealer for complete installation guidance.
