The Performance Tool W1658C Top Post Battery Washers are a color-coded pair of chemically-treated felt washers, designed to help retard corrosion on top post battery terminals. Installation is simple: after removing the terminals and thoroughly cleaning the battery posts, place the red washer on the positive post and the black washer on the negative post, then reconnect the terminal clamps over top. The chemically-treated felt continues working over time to help keep the connection point free of corrosion, maintaining reliable contact and helping extend the life of the battery and its connections.
These washers work by helping prevent corrosion from forming after installation, they don't remove existing corrosion. If the terminals or posts already have corrosion buildup, clean them first with a dedicated cleaning brush, such as Performance Tool's W147C dual-end cleaning brush, before installing these washers.
1. Remove the battery terminals and thoroughly clean the battery posts and terminals. 2. Place the red washer on the positive post. 3. Place the black washer on the negative post. 4. Replace the battery terminals over the posts.
