Camco 7/8" Cylinder Keyless Thumb-Turn

Camco 44323 Thumb-Operated Offset Cam Lock -- RV Baggage Compartment Door Latch

Replace a worn or missing baggage door latch with a clean, tool-free thumb-turn design. The Camco 44323 fits the most common mounting hole size used on travel trailers, fifth wheels, and Class A/C motorhomes -- no key, no hassle.

Secure Your Baggage Door Without a Key

The Camco 44323 is the go-to replacement cam lock for RV exterior storage compartment doors. Thumb-turn operation means no fumbling for a key at the campsite -- just a quarter-turn to open or lock. The compact zinc-alloy body fits the standard 3/4" diameter mounting hole found on most factory baggage doors, making it a straightforward swap on travel trailers, fifth wheels, and motorhomes of all classes.

The lock ships with both an offset cam and a straight cam, so you can match the geometry of your door frame and catch plate without ordering extra hardware. The 7/8" cylinder length accommodates door panels up to 5/8" thick -- typical of extruded aluminum and thin composite doors used throughout the RV industry.

Keyless Operation

Quarter-turn thumb lever opens and locks the cam. No key to lose or copy.

Two Cams Included

Offset cam and straight cam both included. Choose the one that fits your door frame catch without extra parts.

Standard Mounting Hole

Designed for the 3/4" diameter hole used on most factory RV baggage doors -- drop-in replacement in minutes.

Fits Doors to 5/8" Thick

7/8" cylinder length is sized for thin aluminum and composite RV door panels common across travel trailers and motorhomes.

What Is a Cam Lock and Why Replace It?

Cam locks are the rotating latches used on the exterior baggage doors, utility compartment doors, and pass-through storage doors of most RVs. Over time, the plastic or zinc cam wears, bends, or breaks -- especially on doors that see heavy use. A failed cam lock can leave a compartment unable to latch securely, creating a road-safety hazard if doors can swing open while traveling.

The Camco 44323 is a quality direct replacement that restores a positive, secure latch. Because it is thumb-operated rather than keyed, it is a popular upgrade for owners who prefer quick access over security -- ideal for utility and tool compartments, generator doors, and pass-through storage.

Installation Notes

  • Requires a 3/4" diameter mounting hole in the door panel.
  • Cylinder protrudes 7/8" -- measure your door thickness before ordering; door must be 5/8" or thinner for proper cam engagement.
  • Choose offset cam for doors where the catch is not centered directly behind the cylinder; use straight cam when catch aligns directly.
  • Secure the retaining nut from inside the door panel -- no special tools required.
  • Standard screwdriver or nut driver is all that is needed for installation.

Compatibility and Fitment

The 44323 is compatible with the vast majority of RV exterior baggage doors that use a 3/4" mounting hole and a rotating cam mechanism. Common applications include:

  • Travel trailer and fifth wheel baggage compartment doors
  • Class A, B, and C motorhome storage and utility doors
  • Toy hauler rear and side doors with thin aluminum panels
  • Cargo trailer utility compartment doors
  • Marine storage hatches using the same 3/4" hole standard

Not recommended for exterior entry doors or any application requiring keyed security. For doors thicker than 5/8", look for a cam lock with a longer cylinder length.

Heads Up -- Security Limitation

This is a keyless, thumb-operated lock. It provides a positive mechanical latch to keep the door closed while traveling, but it does not provide keyed security. Anyone with physical access to the compartment exterior can open it. For compartments storing valuables, consider a keyed cam lock instead.

Maintenance Tips

  • Apply a light spray of dry lubricant or silicone spray to the cam pivot once a season to keep operation smooth.
  • Inspect the cam for bending or fatigue after any incident where the door was forced open or slammed hard.
  • Check the retaining nut torque annually -- vibration from road travel can loosen it over time.

Important Information

  • This lock fits mounting holes of exactly 3/4" diameter -- verify your door's hole size before installation.
  • Maximum door panel thickness is 5/8". Thicker panels will prevent proper cam engagement and the door will not latch securely.
  • Keyless design -- provides no keyed security. Do not use on compartments requiring theft deterrence.
  • Not intended for use as a primary entry door latch or in structural load-bearing applications.
  • Inspect cam alignment after installation and before driving -- a misaligned cam can allow the door to open while in motion.
