A properly functioning T&P relief valve is the last line of defense against a dangerous over-pressure or over-temperature event in your RV or residential water heater. The Camco 10471 is factory set to open at 150 PSI or 210 deg F -- whichever threshold is reached first -- venting water before pressure builds to a catastrophic level. The 4-inch epoxy-coated probe resists corrosion inside the tank, making this valve a reliable long-term replacement for aging or lime-crusted originals.
RV and residential water heaters are required by code and by common sense to carry a functioning temperature and pressure relief valve. These valves wear out, stick, or corrode over time -- particularly in hard-water areas -- and a stuck valve offers zero protection. Replacing the valve on a regular maintenance schedule (or any time the valve leaks, weeps, or fails to lift by hand) is one of the highest-value safety tasks an RV owner can perform.
The Camco 10471 pairs a durable brass body and stainless steel spring with an epoxy-coated probe that resists the mineral buildup and corrosion that shortens the life of uncoated brass probes. It threads into the standard 3/4" NPT inlet port found on the majority of residential-style water heaters and many RV tank-style heaters.
Opens automatically at 150 PSI or 210 deg F -- whichever is reached first -- providing protection against both over-pressure and over-temperature events simultaneously.
The 4-inch probe is epoxy-coated to resist mineral deposits and corrosion inside the tank, extending service life compared to bare brass probes.
Heavy brass construction handles repeated thermal cycling. The stainless steel spring maintains consistent actuation force over the life of the valve.
Female NPT inlet and male NPT outlet fit the majority of RV and residential water heater relief port connections without adapters.
This valve is a direct-replacement fit for any water heater using a standard 3/4" NPT T&P port and rated for 150 PSI / 210 deg F relief settings. That covers a wide range of residential tank water heaters and many RV propane tank heaters where the existing valve has reached end of life. Common replacement intervals are every 3 to 5 years, or sooner if the valve is weeping, stuck open, or fails the manual lift test.
Installation is straightforward for anyone comfortable with basic plumbing. The valve threads into the 3/4" NPT female port on the side or top of the water heater tank. Use a quality pipe thread sealant (PTFE tape or paste rated for hot water service) on the male threads and tighten to approximately 30 to 40 ft-lbs. A discharge pipe must be attached to the outlet and routed to a safe drain location -- open discharge is not acceptable.
