BAL P22327 — Accu-Slide High-Torque Motor Assembly for Cable-Driven Slide-Out Systems

BAL P22327 — Accu-Slide High-Torque Motor & Gearbox Assembly

OEM replacement high-torque motor and gearbox kit for BAL Accu-Slide cable-driven slide-out systems. 12V DC, 182:1 gear ratio. Fits Accu-Slide Expandable Room Systems in travel trailers, fifth wheels, and motorhomes. 90-day limited warranty.

Why Choose the BAL P22327?

The BAL P22327 is the genuine OEM replacement motor and gearbox assembly for the BAL Accu-Slide Expandable Room System — a patented cable-driven slide-out design found across a wide range of travel trailers, fifth wheels, and motorhomes built by Keystone (Outback, Sprinter), Forest River, Heartland, and other manufacturers. When the motor loses torque, runs noisily, or fails to drive the cables, the P22327 restores smooth, reliable slide-out operation.

Unlike rack-and-pinion or hydraulic slide-out systems, the Accu-Slide uses a chain-and-cable mechanism: the motor drives a shaft with two gears that run chains, and those chains pull four stainless steel cables — two pulling the room out and two pulling it in. The motor is mounted inside the RV just above the slide-out room opening, with the slide-out trim covering the motor, chains, and cable pulleys. The P22327 high-torque motor provides the force to tension and pull those cables precisely and consistently through thousands of extension and retraction cycles.

💪 High-Torque Design

High-torque motor provides ample pulling force through the cable-and-chain system to move even fully loaded slide-out rooms

⚙️ Motor + Gearbox Kit

Complete assembly includes both the motor and integrated gearbox — single part number replaces both components together

🔌 12V DC Operation

Runs directly from the RV's 12-volt house battery system — no shore power or converter required for slide-out operation

🏭 OEM BAL Replacement

Genuine BAL part — engineered to the exact specifications of the original factory-installed Accu-Slide motor for proper chain and cable drive

⚙️ How the BAL Accu-Slide Cable System Works

Understanding how the Accu-Slide operates helps identify motor failures vs. other system issues:

The Accu-Slide is a frame-within-a-frame design. The outer frame is built into the RV wall opening. The slide-out room fits into the inner frame and rides on rollers at the bottom.

Motor drives the chain-and-cable system: The P22327 motor, mounted above the slide-out inside the RV, turns a shaft with two sprocket gears. The gears engage chains. Each chain has cables attached to both ends — one cable set pulls the room out, the other set pulls it in. Tension is applied evenly at all four corners so the room travels squarely.

Each slide-out has two motors — one on the driver side, one on the passenger side — that operate simultaneously and must stay synchronized. If one motor fails and the other runs, the room can rack (travel unevenly), potentially jamming the slide.

Manual override: In the event of a motor failure, the system can be operated manually using a flex shaft with a #3 square drive bit and a cordless drill (do NOT use an impact driver). Alternate between the two motors to move the room evenly.

⚠️ Important: Two Motors Per Slide-Out — Check Both Before Replacing One

Each BAL Accu-Slide slide-out room is powered by two motors — one on each side. If your slide-out is not operating correctly, test both motors independently before ordering a replacement:

• On the Accu-Slide controller, press and hold M1 IN and then M2 IN separately to run each motor individually. If one motor runs and the other does not, the non-running motor or its wiring is the fault.

Low battery voltage (below 8.6V DC) will cause the controller's red LED to illuminate and prevent operation — charge the battery fully before diagnosing a motor fault.

If motors have been swapped or the slide load has changed significantly and the slide is tracking unevenly, reset the controller's memory: press and hold M1 IN and M2 IN simultaneously until the red LED flashes. This restores factory defaults.

Do NOT run one motor alone during normal room operation — operating a single side without the other will cause the room to rack and may damage the cable system or the room frame.

📋 Motor Replacement Overview

Tools Needed: Basic hand tools, cordless drill with #3 square drive bit (for manual override if needed during installation)

Key Installation Steps:

1. Retract the slide-out fully before beginning motor replacement

2. Disconnect power — disconnect the RV from shore power and isolate the house battery to prevent accidental slide actuation during service

3. Remove interior trim panel above the slide-out opening to expose the motor, gearbox, chains, and cable attachment points

4. Disconnect motor wiring from the Accu-Slide controller

5. Remove the failed motor and gearbox assembly from the mounting bracket above the slide-out

6. Install P22327 — mount the new motor and gearbox assembly to the existing bracket. The sprocket gear must engage the existing chain properly

7. Reconnect wiring to the controller (M1 or M2 port matching the side being replaced)

8. Reset controller memory if prompted — hold M1 IN + M2 IN simultaneously until red LED flashes to restore factory synchronization

9. Test both motors individually (M1 IN and M2 IN separately) to confirm operation, then run the room fully out and in to verify synchronized travel

10. Check cable tension after first operation — cables should be snug but not over-tensioned

Accu-Slide Troubleshooting — Motor vs. Other System Causes

Symptom Likely Motor Issue Other Causes to Check First
Slide-out won't move in either direction
Possibly — both motors failed simultaneously (uncommon)
Check battery voltage (must be above 8.6V DC — red LED indicates low voltage); check controller fuse and wiring; check wall switch for signal
Slide-out racks (travels unevenly, one side faster)
Yes — one motor has failed or is running slower than the other
Cable tension mismatch — one side's cables may be loose or broken; test M1 and M2 individually to identify which motor is at fault
Motor runs but slide-out doesn't move
Yes — stripped internal gear in gearbox, or chain disengaged from sprocket
Inspect sprocket gear-to-chain engagement; check for broken or disconnected cable
Grinding or clicking noise during operation
Possibly — worn or stripped gearbox internals
Inspect chain for damage or misalignment; check cable routing through pulleys for binding
Slide-out moves slowly or hesitates
Possibly — motor losing torque from wear or overheating
Low battery voltage is the most common cause — charge battery fully. Cables too tight can also overload the motor; check cable tension
Slide-out stops mid-travel
Possibly — motor thermal cutout from overloading
Room binding from misalignment; cable too tight on one side; obstruction under slide; battery voltage dropping under load

When diagnosing Accu-Slide motor issues, always use the controller's individual motor test (M1 IN / M2 IN) to isolate which side is at fault before ordering a replacement. A slide that racks or moves unevenly almost always points to a single motor failure rather than both motors failing simultaneously.
