Stop guessing and start diagnosing. The Camco 10023 Continuity Tester lets you test your RV water heater's elements, thermostats, and electrical circuits while they are still installed in the unit -- no draining, no disassembly, no guesswork. A sensitive LED light gives you a clear pass/fail indication in seconds, making it an essential tool for troubleshooting a water heater that won't heat or trips the breaker.
When your RV water heater stops producing hot water, the culprit is often a failed heating element, an open thermostat, or a broken circuit -- problems that are quick to confirm with a continuity tester but time-consuming and messy to chase without one. The Camco 10023 is purpose-built for RV water heaters, letting you probe elements and circuits while they remain in place and the tank is still full.
The unbreakable yellow body is designed for life in a tool bag or the tank compartment. A protective cover shields the LED and probe tip from damage during storage. Two AA batteries are included, so it's ready to use right out of the package.
Test elements, thermostats, and circuits without draining or removing the water heater. Saves time and avoids a wet mess.
A bright LED lights up the moment continuity is detected, giving you an instant, unambiguous pass/fail result.
Unbreakable body in high-visibility yellow with a protective cover over the LED and probe tip -- built to last in a tool kit.
Includes 2 AA batteries. No additional tools or adapters needed to start testing immediately.
The Camco 10023 is useful for confirming continuity -- the presence of an unbroken electrical path -- in the following RV water heater components:
Suitable for diagnosing electric heating elements and thermostats on popular RV water heater brands including Atwood (now Dometic), Suburban, and similar 6- and 10-gallon units. If your unit has a screw-in electric element and accessible thermostat terminals, this tester will work.
Make sure the water heater is powered OFF and unplugged or disconnected from shore power before testing. Touch the tester's two probes to the two terminals of the component you want to check -- for example, the two terminals on a heating element. If the LED lights, the circuit is complete (good continuity). If the LED does not light, the component is open (failed or tripped) and likely needs replacement or reset.
Always disconnect power to the water heater before probing terminals. This tool tests continuity using its own internal batteries -- it is not designed to be used on live circuits. Never probe energized terminals.
A continuity tester confirms whether an electrical path exists -- it does not measure voltage, resistance (ohms), or current. For a full element resistance check (measuring ohms to confirm an element is within spec rather than simply open or shorted), a digital multimeter is the complementary tool. Many technicians use both: the continuity tester for a fast first check, and a multimeter when they need exact resistance values.
Add a quick continuity check of your water heater elements and thermostat to your spring commissioning routine. Catching a failed element before your first trip saves you a cold-shower surprise at the campground. The compact size of the 10023 makes it easy to store in your RV's tool kit year-round.
