Carefree of Colorado designed this kit specifically for their vinyl awning fabric. The patch material is matched to the weight, flexibility, and UV resistance of standard vinyl awning fabric, so the repair lays flat, bonds cleanly, and holds up through wind, rain, and direct sun exposure rather than peeling at the edges like generic tape solutions.

At 5 x 5 inches, the patch covers medium-sized tears, punctures, and stress cracks -- large enough to overlap damage by a generous margin on all sides for a secure bond, yet small enough to keep the repair low-profile on the awning face.

Application Tips for Best Results

A patch applied correctly will outlast one applied in a hurry. Follow these steps for a durable repair:

  • Clean the damaged area thoroughly with a mild soap and water solution. Remove any dirt, oxidation, or mildew residue.
  • Allow the surface to dry completely before applying the patch -- moisture under the adhesive is the most common cause of early failure.
  • If possible, apply in warm conditions (above 50 deg F). Cold surfaces reduce initial adhesive tack.
  • Center the patch over the damage so the tear or hole is fully covered with at least 1 inch of overlap on all sides.
  • Press firmly from the center outward, working out any air bubbles.
  • Run a fingernail or smooth tool firmly around the perimeter edge to seat the adhesive fully.
  • Allow 24 hours before rolling or storing the awning to give the adhesive time to fully cure.
Best Used On: This patch is designed for vinyl awning fabric. It is not intended for acrylic woven fabrics (such as Sunbrella-type awning material) or fiberglass components. Check your awning label if unsure of material type -- Carefree vinyl awnings are typically labeled on the underside hem.
