A fast, code-compliant solution that installs between any standard campground water spigot and your RV fresh water hose in seconds -- protecting your potable water supply from back-siphonage contamination every time you hook up.
Campground water spigots serve dozens of rigs. Without a vacuum breaker installed, a sudden drop in city water pressure can create a siphon that pulls water -- and anything it has contacted -- backward from your RV hose into the municipal supply. The Camco 40395 breaks that siphon the instant pressure drops, keeping your fresh water system safe and the campground supply uncontaminated.
Installation takes under a minute: thread the 40395 directly onto the spigot, then attach your RV fresh water hose to the other end. No tools, no adapters, no separate check valve needed. Many campgrounds and state parks require a backflow prevention device by rule -- this assembly satisfies that requirement.
Atmospheric vent opens automatically when supply pressure drops, stopping back-siphonage before contamination can occur.
Male NPT threads on inlet and outlet match standard campground spigots and RV hose fittings -- no adapters required in typical setups.
Handles well above typical campground water pressure (40-80 PSI), with headroom for high-pressure sites up to 125 PSI working pressure.
Lightweight polymer construction resists corrosion. Small enough to leave attached to your hose between hookups.
A pressure regulator limits the PSI coming into your RV but does nothing to prevent back-siphonage. A water filter keeps particulates out but cannot stop reverse flow. A vacuum breaker is the only device specifically designed to break the siphon created by a pressure drop at the source -- it is a separate, non-redundant safeguard in your water connection chain.
The correct hookup order at the spigot is: spigot -- vacuum breaker (40395) -- pressure regulator -- water filter -- RV inlet hose. Placing the vacuum breaker first, directly at the spigot, gives it the widest protection window.
Many state and private campgrounds, as well as local health codes, require a backflow prevention device on any RV water connection. The Camco 40395 satisfies this requirement and fits all standard 1/2" garden-hose-to-NPT spigot configurations common at full-hookup sites.
The Camco 40395 prevents back-siphonage only -- it does not reduce or regulate incoming water pressure. Always use a separate RV pressure regulator to protect your RV plumbing from high campground PSI. Typical RV plumbing is rated for 45-60 PSI; campground supplies can exceed 100 PSI.
