Combined DC-DC charger, MPPT solar regulator, and smart battery isolator in one unit, built to charge a towed trailer's battery directly through the trailer's 7-way plug and existing vehicle wiring.
The Redarc BCDC1212S, part of Redarc's BCDC Trailer S lineup, combines a 12A vehicle-to-trailer DC-DC charger, a 40A MPPT solar regulator, and a smart battery isolator into one compact unit. It's designed to connect directly through the trailer's 7-way plug and existing vehicle wiring, keeping the trailer's battery charged while towing and eliminating the need for unnecessary idling or full dependence on shore power.
A built-in input current limit is specifically designed for connecting through a trailer harness, simplifying installation compared to a standard engine-bay DC-DC charger. The built-in smart battery isolator protects the tow vehicle's start battery from the trailer's power demands, helping prevent blown vehicle fuses or overheated trailer harness connectors. The unit's 40A MPPT solar regulator also allows charging from solar panels, either alongside or independent of vehicle charging, and it supports all common battery types including lithium.
The BCDC1212S is designed for installation within the vehicle's cabin or a similarly protected environment, such as a truck canopy, RV, caravan, or battery box. Unlike some other Redarc DC-DC chargers, it is not intended for engine bay installation.
