If your truck has a factory trailer brake controller outlet or a factory hitch receiver, it almost certainly has a 7-way blade socket. The Valterra A10-7W10 plugs directly into that socket on one end and into your trailer's 7-way receptacle on the other -- no adapters needed for most setups.

Understanding the pin-out helps you troubleshoot fast when a circuit stops working on the road. The standard RV blade 7-way layout assigns each pin as follows:
Pin 2 carries the brake controller output signal. This cord supports single-axle and tandem-axle electric drum brake trailers with proportional or time-delayed brake controllers. Make sure your truck's brake controller is properly calibrated for your trailer's loaded weight -- the cord itself does not limit brake gain.
This cord is designed for the standard RV 7-way blade (also called "RV blade" or "7-pin flat blade") connector -- the large round connector with seven flat blade contacts. It is NOT compatible with the smaller 7-way round-pin connector used on some European and older horse trailer applications, nor with 4-flat, 5-flat, or 6-round connectors without an adapter.
Compatible tow vehicles include virtually all modern half-ton, three-quarter-ton, and one-ton pickup trucks from Ford (F-150, F-250, F-350), GM (Silverado, Sierra, Suburban), Ram (1500, 2500, 3500), and Toyota (Tundra, Sequoia) equipped from the factory with a trailer wiring harness. Valterra also offers shorter 6-foot versions (A10-7W6) and coiled cord variants, as well as 7-way to 4-flat adapters and 7-way to 5-flat adapters for trailers with smaller connector standards. If your trailer has a 4-way flat connector and your truck has a 7-way socket, look for the Valterra A10-7W4 adapter instead.
Plug the truck-side connector into your tow vehicle's 7-way socket (usually mounted near the hitch receiver or on the rear bumper). Plug the trailer-side connector into your trailer's 7-way receptacle on the coupler, pin box, or A-frame. Route the cord so it has a drip loop below the connection points to keep water from running into the sockets. Secure excess cord length with a loop of rope or a hook so it does not drag on the ground or wrap around the hitch ball during turns.
The 7-way RV blade and the 7-way round-pin connector look superficially similar but are not interchangeable. Count the pins and check their shape -- flat blade contacts indicate the RV blade standard this cord is built for. Round pin contacts require a different cord. When in doubt, bring your existing connector to a trailer supply store and match it physically.
