If your vehicle doesn't have a trailer wiring connector, you'll need to have one installed or use a T-connector wiring harness that taps into your vehicle's existing tail light wiring. Most modern trucks, SUVs, and many passenger vehicles either have trailer wiring pre-installed or can easily accommodate it. Tools & Materials Needed: • Phillips screwdriver (if using screw mounting) • Wire strippers/crimpers (if splicing into existing wiring) • Electrical tape • Zip ties (optional, in addition to provided clips) • Multimeter or test light (for verifying connections) • Denatured alcohol or cleaning solution (for adhesive mounting surface prep) Important Wiring Safety Notes: • Never splice into airbag wiring or other safety-critical vehicle wiring • If unsure about vehicle wiring, consult a professional installer or auto electrician • Always disconnect vehicle battery before splicing into vehicle wiring • Use proper crimp connectors and heat-shrink tubing for permanent connections • Verify ground connection is secure - poor ground is the #1 cause of lighting problems Troubleshooting Common Issues: • No lights work: Check vehicle fuse, verify trailer connector is receiving power, check ground connection • Lights dim or flicker: Poor ground connection - clean and resecure ground wire • Only one taillight works: Check specific wire connection for non-working light • Turn signals don't flash: Vehicle may need turn signal flasher upgraded for LED load • Brake lights don't activate: Check yellow and green wire connections Maintenance & Care: • Periodically inspect all light functions before each trip • Clean light lenses with mild soap and water - do not use harsh chemicals • Check wiring for damage, especially after rough terrain or long trips • Replace any damaged lights immediately - backup lights available from VersaHaul dealers • Keep trailer connector clean and free from corrosion • Apply dielectric grease to connector pins to prevent corrosion
