In-line diode kit that isolates the brake controller's signal from a vehicle's brake lighting circuit, resolving false error codes on complex or sensitive modern vehicle systems.
Many modern vehicle systems have become complex and sensitive to a brake controller communicating manual braking signals to the vehicle's brake lighting circuit. The result can be a false error or fault code on the vehicle or brake controller. The Curt 51536 diode kit resolves this issue by isolating that communication, splicing in-line on the red wire between the vehicle connector and the brake controller.
Installing this kit does not impact the actual braking functionality of the brake controller during either manual braking or normal braking. One important side effect to be aware of: neither the vehicle's nor the trailer's brake lights will illuminate when the brake controller's manual override is used, since that's the exact communication this kit is designed to isolate.
Splices into the red wire near the brake controller
Stops sensitive vehicle systems from misreading signals
Manual and normal braking function unaffected
For a clean, protected splice connection
Per Curt's official installation manual: read and follow the installation instructions carefully. Failure to do so could result in damage to the brake control unit, loss of trailer brakes, or poor brake performance. Also note that neither the vehicle nor trailer lights will illuminate when using manual override once this kit is installed — this is expected behavior, not a defect.
