Camco 5-Micron Sediment EVO X2 Compatible Camco 40637 -- EVO X2 First-Stage Sediment Replacement Filter Cartridge

Keep your EVO X2 dual-stage RV water filter running at full efficiency. The Camco 40637 spun polypropylene sediment cartridge replaces the first-stage filter element, pulling sediment, dirt, and particulates out of your water supply before they can reach and clog the downstream carbon block stage.

First-Stage Sediment Protection for EVO X2 Dual-Stage Systems

The Camco 40637 is the factory-matched replacement sediment cartridge for the Camco EVO X2 Dual Stage Premium RV Water Filter Kit. In a dual-stage setup, the sediment filter is always the first element water passes through. Its job is to intercept rust, sand, dirt, pipe scale, and other suspended particulates before that water reaches the carbon block cartridge.

Skipping sediment filter replacement -- or running a spent cartridge -- forces your carbon block to do double duty and dramatically shortens its service life. Swapping this cartridge on schedule is the single most cost-effective maintenance step in a two-stage RV filtration system.

5-Micron Rating

Captures sediment, sand, rust, and pipe scale particles 5 microns and larger before they reach the carbon stage.

Spun Polypropylene

Gradient-density construction traps particles throughout the depth of the media, not just on the surface, for longer service life.

Standard 2.5 x 10 Inch Form Factor

Fits EVO X2 housings and most other canister-style filter housings using the 2.5 x 10 inch cartridge standard.

Protects Carbon Block Stage

Extends the usable life of the companion carbon block cartridge by intercepting sediment load upstream.

Why Replace on Schedule?

A spent sediment filter increases pressure drop across your system, reduces flow rate to your RV faucets, and allows fine particles to reach the carbon block. Most RV users replace this cartridge every 3 months or after roughly 500 gallons of throughput -- whichever comes first. Heavy use of campground water with visible sediment may require more frequent changes.

Fits Beyond the EVO X2

This cartridge's 2.5 x 10 inch dimensions are an industry-standard size. It is compatible with any canister-style filter housing designed for 2.5 x 10 inch cartridges with a standard center post. This makes it a versatile replacement option for other brands of RV, marine, and whole-coach inline filter housings -- not just the EVO X2 kit.

Correct Replacement for EVO X2 Systems

If you own the Camco EVO X2 Dual Stage Premium Water Filter Kit, this is the sediment cartridge you need for routine maintenance. The EVO X2 system uses two separate housings -- one for sediment, one for carbon block -- and the cartridges are not interchangeable between stages. The 40637 is the sediment-stage cartridge only.

  • Replaces the sediment cartridge in the EVO X2 first-stage housing
  • Companion carbon block replacement cartridge sold separately
  • No tools required beyond the filter wrench supplied with the EVO X2 housing
  • Cartridge slides out of the housing sump -- no cutting, soldering, or special fittings

What Is Spun Polypropylene Media?

Spun polypropylene (also called melt-blown PP) is a food-safe thermoplastic fiber spun into a tight matrix around a center core. Unlike pleated filters, a spun PP cartridge has a gradient density -- looser on the outside, tighter toward the core -- so it traps large particles in the outer layers and finer particles deeper in. This distributes the sediment load through the full depth of the media rather than caking it on one surface, which extends filter life and maintains flow rate longer between changes.

Maintenance Tips

  • Mark the installation date on the cartridge or housing with a permanent marker so you know when to swap it.
  • Never attempt to clean and reuse a spent spun polypropylene cartridge -- the media cannot be effectively backwashed and the trapped particles will re-release.
  • Relieve water pressure before opening the housing sump (close the upstream shutoff valve and open a downstream faucet).
  • Inspect the housing O-ring each time you replace the cartridge. Replace the O-ring if it shows cracking or deformation.
  • Dispose of spent cartridges in household trash -- the polypropylene media is not hazardous.

Important Information

  • This cartridge is a sediment-stage filter only. It does not reduce chlorine, chloramines, taste, odor, VOCs, or bacteria. Use the companion carbon block cartridge downstream for chemical reduction.
  • Do not exceed the pressure rating of your filter housing. Standard 2.5 x 10 inch housings are typically rated to 100 PSI; verify your specific housing limit before installation.
  • Not for use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without additional appropriate treatment upstream.
  • Always relieve system pressure before opening the filter housing to swap cartridges.
  • Do not attempt to clean, backwash, or reuse a spent cartridge -- replace it on schedule.
  • Carbon block replacement cartridge and filter housing are sold separately and are not included with this listing.
