Plug into any 50-amp campground pedestal with confidence. The Camco 55464 checks for wiring faults at the source, guards your RV against power surges, and gives you a flexible 18-inch connection point -- all in one compact adapter.
Bad campground wiring is one of the most common -- and costly -- causes of RV electrical damage. Open grounds, open neutrals, reversed polarity, and miswired outlets can fry inverters, shore power converters, and sensitive electronics in seconds. The Camco 55464 puts a circuit analyzer and surge protector directly at the plug, giving you a fast wiring diagnosis before you draw a single watt.
The PowerGrip handle design makes it easy to seat and remove the plug even when the receptacle is stiff or recessed in a weathered pedestal box. The 18-inch cord between the male and female ends adds enough slack to clear tight pedestal doors and awkward outlet angles without functioning as a general extension cord.
Indicator lights identify open ground, open neutral, open hot, reversed polarity, and reversed hot/ground wiring faults at the pedestal before connection.
Metal oxide varistor (MOV) surge suppression absorbs voltage spikes and transients, protecting RV appliances and electronics from campground power anomalies.
Ergonomic PowerGrip body on both the male plug and female receptacle makes insertion and removal easy, even on tight or corroded 50-amp pedestals.
Enough length to clear pedestal doors and reach awkward outlet positions without the voltage drop risk of a long extension cord.
The diagnostic indicator LEDs on the Camco 55464 read wiring conditions at the campground pedestal receptacle and display one of the following fault conditions:
The analyzer reads the pedestal receptacle itself. It does not test your RV's internal wiring. Plug the 55464 into the pedestal, read the indicators, then connect your RV's 50-amp shore power cord to the female end of the adapter.
The contoured PowerGrip body gives you a secure two-handed pull on both ends. Standard dogbone adapters with bare-wire or thin-body plugs can be very difficult to remove from weathered pedestals. Camco's grip design reduces strain and accidental damage to the outlet.
The surge protection in the 55464 uses MOV (metal oxide varistor) technology to clamp and absorb transient voltage spikes -- the kind caused by lightning strikes to nearby utility lines, generator switching, or neighboring campers connecting heavy loads. MOV-based protection is effective for most common campground surges.
MOV surge protection is a first line of defense against transient spikes. It is not a full EMS (Electrical Management System). It will not disconnect your RV automatically during sustained high voltage, low voltage, or a lost-neutral event. If you camp frequently in locations with poor power infrastructure, consider a hardwired or plug-in EMS unit that provides automatic disconnect for a broader range of power quality problems. The 55464 is a convenient diagnostic and surge adapter, not a replacement for a dedicated EMS.
