Coleman Mach 13,500 BTU Power Saver Series Coleman Mach 38208-0690 -- Mach 3 Power Saver RV Rooftop Air Conditioner, Black

The Mach 3 Power Saver is engineered for RV owners who want maximum cooling without hammering their generator or shore power connection. A high-efficiency compressor, an oversized evaporator and condenser coil set, and a high-efficiency fan motor are matched together to pull more BTUs per amp -- giving you a cooler rig on a lighter electrical load. Available here in a black finish to complement dark or two-tone RV exteriors.

More Cooling, Less Power Consumption

Standard RV rooftop air conditioners are built to a price. The Mach 3 Power Saver takes a different approach: Coleman Mach matched each internal component -- compressor, fan motor, coil size -- to minimize wasted energy at every stage of the refrigeration cycle. The result is a unit that cools your RV effectively while drawing measurably fewer amps than conventional 13,500 BTU rooftop units.

That lower amp draw matters in real-world RV use. On a 30-amp shore power hookup or a portable generator, every amp you save on the air conditioner is an amp available for the microwave, the coffee maker, or your charging devices. For boondockers and full-timers running an inverter-generator, the efficiency advantage is even more significant.

High-Efficiency Compressor

Matched to the coil and fan system to maximize BTU output per amp drawn, reducing load on generators and 30-amp service.

Oversized Coils

Larger evaporator and condenser coils increase heat transfer surface area, allowing the compressor to work less for the same cooling effect.

High-Efficiency Fan Motor

Moves air across the oversized coils effectively without adding unnecessary amp draw to the total unit current.

Black Exterior Finish

Factory black housing for RVs with dark or two-tone rooflines. Part number 38208-0690 is the black-finish variant of the Mach 3 Power Saver line.

Standard 14 x 14 In. Roof Opening Fitment

The Mach 3 Power Saver installs through the industry-standard 14 x 14 in. roof cutout used on the vast majority of Class A, Class C, fifth-wheel, and travel trailer rooftops. It mounts to the roof using a rubber gasket and interior ceiling assembly (ceiling assembly sold separately -- see Coleman Mach compatible ceiling kits). The unit ships as the exterior rooftop shroud and mechanical assembly only.

Power Saver Advantage

By pairing the compressor, fan motor, and coil sizes as a matched system rather than using off-the-shelf components, Coleman Mach achieves a lower running amp draw compared to standard 13,500 BTU rooftop units. This is particularly valuable when running on a 30-amp service shared with other appliances, or on a generator where fuel consumption is a concern.

Installation Overview

The Mach 3 Power Saver mounts to the roof deck using four bolt points through the standard 14 x 14 in. opening. A foam rubber gasket seals the base to the roof surface. Power connects via a junction box inside the RV ceiling -- the unit requires a dedicated 115V AC circuit. A compatible Coleman Mach ceiling assembly and thermostat must be installed inside the coach to complete the system.

  • Remove the old rooftop unit and clean the roof opening and sealing surface before installation.
  • Inspect the roof deck for soft spots or delamination before mounting.
  • Use a compatible Coleman Mach ceiling assembly (not included) to connect the interior air distribution.
  • Wire to a dedicated 20-amp or 30-amp 115V AC breaker per the unit's electrical requirements.
  • Apply a bead of self-leveling lap sealant around the base perimeter after torquing the mounting bolts.

Ceiling Assembly and Thermostat -- Sold Separately

This listing is for the rooftop unit only. A Coleman Mach compatible ceiling assembly (which includes the return-air grille, fan speed control, and interior ducting collar) is required to complete the installation. Coleman Mach ceiling assemblies and thermostats are available separately. Verify ceiling assembly compatibility with the Mach 3 Power Saver series before ordering.

Electrical Requirements -- Read Before Installing

The Mach 3 Power Saver operates on 115V AC, 60 Hz single-phase power. Although the running amp draw is lower than a standard unit, startup (locked-rotor) amperage is higher. A soft-start module (such as the Coleman Mach SoftStart or a compatible third-party device) is strongly recommended if you plan to run this unit on a small inverter-generator (2,000W-3,000W class). Without a soft-start, most small generators cannot handle the compressor startup surge.

Maintenance Tips

  • Clean or replace the return-air filter in the ceiling assembly every 30 days during heavy use -- a clogged filter reduces airflow across the evaporator coil and forces the compressor to work harder.
  • Inspect the roof gasket and lap sealant around the base each season. Cracked sealant is the leading cause of water intrusion around rooftop AC units.
  • Clear debris from the condenser coil fins each spring using low-pressure compressed air or a soft brush. Never use a pressure washer directly on the coil fins.
  • Check all electrical connections in the junction box annually for corrosion or loosening caused by road vibration.

Important Information

  • This unit requires a 115V AC, 60 Hz dedicated circuit. Do not connect to 12V DC power.
  • Compressor startup (locked-rotor) amperage is significantly higher than running amperage. A soft-start module is strongly recommended for generator operation, especially generators rated under 3,500 watts.
  • Ceiling assembly and thermostat are NOT included and must be purchased separately. The rooftop unit cannot distribute air into the coach without a compatible ceiling assembly installed.
  • This is a cooling-only unit. It does not provide electric heat. For year-round climate control, a separate heat source is required.
  • Roof deck must be structurally sound and capable of supporting the unit weight before installation. Do not install over a soft, wet, or delaminated roof substrate.
  • Seal all perimeter edges with compatible self-leveling RV roof sealant after installation to prevent water intrusion. This is not optional -- unsealed installations will leak.
  • R-410A refrigerant is factory-sealed. Do not attempt to recharge or modify the refrigerant circuit. EPA Section 608 certification is required to handle refrigerants.
