The Fastway 86-00-3050 Locking Hitch Pin replaces the standard pin and clip with a keyed, drill-resistant barrel lock that secures the ball mount to the receiver and makes removal without a key genuinely difficult.
The key differentiators here go beyond just "it locks." The barrel lock is drill-resistant — a common attack on lesser hitch locks — and specifically engineered so it cannot be "false locked," meaning it won't appear locked while failing to engage properly. The 1/4-turn lock-and-unlock mechanism is fast enough that you'll actually use it every time rather than leaving the mount unprotected for convenience. Before ordering, confirm the following: 1. Receiver size — 2" only: This locking hitch pin is designed for standard 2" receivers (Class III, IV, and V). If your receiver opening is 2-1/2", see the Fastway 86-00-3160 instead — it uses the same 5/8" pin diameter but is sized for the wider 2-1/2" receiver tube. 2. Pin hole diameter — 5/8": This pin is 5/8" diameter. Confirm your receiver has a 5/8" cross pin hole. Most standard 2" Class III–V receivers use a 5/8" hole, but some OEM factory receiver hitches (particularly on certain Toyota Tundra and other truck models) use a slightly different specification that can cause fit issues. If your existing hitch pin is not 5/8", this lock will not fit. 3. Safety chain routing: Some users note the lock body can impede safety chain hook attachment on certain hitch configurations. If this is a concern for your setup, confirm clearance before purchasing.
Installing the Locking Hitch Pin: 1. Remove Existing Pin and Clip: Pull the existing hitch pin and clip from your receiver's cross pin hole 2. Insert Ball Mount: Slide your ball mount shank fully into the 2" receiver tube, aligning the cross pin hole in the shank with the receiver's pin hole 3. Insert Locking Pin: With the lock in the open (unlocked) position, slide the 5/8" pin through the receiver and ball mount cross holes 4. Lock: Insert the barrel key and turn 1/4 turn to engage the lock — the ball mount is now secured in the receiver 5. Remove Key and Install Dust Cap: Remove the key and cover the keyhole with the rubber dust cap between uses 6.
