Types of hitch pins and locks

• Standard pins with clips: Basic security, easy to remove. The clip can vibrate loose over time.
• Locking hitch pins: Replace the clip with a keyed or combination lock. Prevents ball mount theft.
• Coupler locks: Lock through or over the trailer coupler to prevent someone from hitching up and stealing your trailer.
• Receiver locks: Plug into an empty receiver tube when not towing to prevent theft of the receiver itself.
• Keyed-alike systems: Multiple locks that share the same key—convenient for locking your hitch pin, coupler, and spare tire with one key.

Sizing

• Receiver pin diameter: 1/2 inch for Class I/II (1-1/4 inch receivers), 5/8 inch for Class III/IV/V (2 inch and 2-1/2 inch receivers).
• Pin length: Must span the receiver tube plus ball mount with room for the lock mechanism.

Locks deter theft but are not foolproof. Use them in combination with other security measures for high-value trailers.
