The Furrion F50-ATS is a 50-amp, 125/250V automatic transfer switch that manages the changeover between two separate AC power sources for an RV — typically shore power and a generator, or shore power and an inverter. When the transfer switch detects power available at its second input (commonly the generator), it automatically switches the RV's electrical system to that source after a 20-30 second delay, which gives the generator time to reach stable operating speed before the load is applied.
A mechanical safety interlock is built into the switch to ensure the two power sources can never be connected in parallel — preventing a potentially dangerous overvoltage condition on the output line. High-copper-content brass terminals, nickel-plated for corrosion resistance, reduce operating temperature and improve conductivity, lowering the risk of a thermal event at the connections. The switch is built with Furrion's VibrationSmart and ClimateSmart technologies to withstand the vibration and temperature extremes of mobile use, housed in a UL94 fire-resistant enclosure, and certified to UL1008 safety standards. The transfer switch continuously monitors Input 1 (typically shore power) for available power. When power is present, the RV runs on that source. If shore power is lost and a generator is started, the switch senses AC power at Input 2 and starts a 20-30 second timer — once elapsed, it automatically switches the RV's load to the generator, giving the generator time to reach stable speed first. When shore power returns, the switch transfers back automatically. The mechanical interlock ensures only one source is ever connected to the output at a time.
Per Furrion's installation guide: mount the ATS indoors or in a location sheltered from outdoor elements, away from water and contaminants, and never in an engine compartment. The mounting location must remain accessible for future servicing — ideally close to the shore power cord entry point or generator. This product is not suitable for use with medical life support equipment.
