Lippert 10-Inch Electric Brake CSA Certified Lippert 122450 10" Electric Brake Assembly -- Right Hand, 3500 lb Axle

A fully pre-assembled drop-in replacement electric brake for the right-hand (passenger) side of 3500 lb trailer axles. The backing plate arrives with shoes, magnet, and springs already installed -- cut the wires, swap the plate, reconnect, and you're done. No partial kits, no hunting for individual components.

Pre-Assembled and Ready to Bolt On

Replacing a worn or seized electric trailer brake can be a frustrating job when you're sourcing springs, shoes, and magnets separately. Lippert's complete brake assembly solves that by shipping the entire unit pre-built on a new backing plate. The hardware is already positioned and tensioned at the factory, so installation is straightforward even for first-timers working in the driveway.

This assembly is specifically engineered for the right-hand (passenger) side of axles rated at 3500 lb. The 10-inch drum diameter is one of the most common sizes across single-axle utility, boat, and RV trailers -- making this a high-confidence replacement for a wide range of rigs.

Pre-Assembled Unit

Shoes, magnet, springs, and hardware come mounted on the backing plate. No separate assembly required before installation.

CSA Certified

Meets Canadian Standards Association requirements for electric trailer brakes, confirming safety and quality standards.

Manual Adjusting

Uses a standard manual star-wheel adjuster -- simple to set at installation and easy to re-adjust for even wear over time.

Right-Hand Specific

Engineered for the passenger side of the axle. Correct hand orientation ensures proper shoe arc and self-energizing action.

Installation Overview

Because the assembly arrives pre-built, the swap typically follows these steps:

  • Safely chock the trailer and remove the wheel and drum.
  • Disconnect the electric brake wires at the connector or cut them close to the old backing plate.
  • Remove the bolts securing the old backing plate to the axle spindle flange.
  • Slide the new assembly onto the spindle and align the 4-bolt hole pattern.
  • Torque the mounting bolts to axle manufacturer specification.
  • Splice or connect the included brake wires to the trailer harness.
  • Reinstall the drum and wheel, then manually adjust the star wheel until slight drag is felt, and back off slightly.
What's Included: Backing plate, brake shoes, electromagnet, return springs, and adjuster hardware. Everything is pre-mounted and ready to install.
What's NOT Included: Mounting bolts for the backing plate are not included. Reuse existing hardware if in good condition, or source grade-5 bolts to match your axle flange specification.

Compatibility and Fitment

This brake assembly is designed for 10-inch electric drum brake systems on axles rated to 3500 lb. The 4-bolt mounting pattern with a 2.25-inch center hole is the standard configuration used by the majority of 3500 lb axle manufacturers. Verify your axle flange bolt pattern and drum diameter before ordering.

Common applications include single-axle RV trailers, boat trailers, utility trailers, and car haulers using 3500 lb axle assemblies. This right-hand assembly pairs with Lippert's left-hand version when replacing brakes on both sides of an axle.

Right vs. Left Hand: "Right hand" refers to the passenger/curb side when viewed from behind the trailer. If you are standing behind the trailer looking forward, the right-hand brake is on your left. Confirm your side before ordering -- left-hand and right-hand assemblies are not interchangeable.

When to Replace Your Trailer Brake Assembly

  • Brake shoes worn to the lining backing or below 1/16-inch remaining thickness.
  • Magnet shows scoring, flat spots, or fails resistance test (typically 3.0-3.2 ohms for a 12V magnet).
  • Backing plate is cracked, severely corroded, or deformed.
  • Springs are stretched, broken, or show heat discoloration.
  • Trailer fails brake controller response test or pulls to one side under braking.
Maintenance Tip: After installation, perform a brake controller output test (typically 1.5-3.0 amps per magnet at full gain) to confirm the new magnet is receiving proper signal. Adjust the star wheel so the drum spins freely with very slight drag, then road-test at low speed before highway use.
Replacing Both Sides? Always replace electric brake assemblies in axle pairs (left and right together) to maintain balanced braking force and even wear. Mismatched shoe thickness side-to-side can cause trailer sway under hard stops.

Important Information
  • This assembly fits the right-hand (passenger) side only. Using a right-hand assembly on the left side results in incorrect shoe arc orientation and reduced braking performance.
  • Rated for 3500 lb axles. Do not install on axles with higher load ratings -- undersized brakes will overheat and fail.
  • Mounting bolts are not included. Inspect existing hardware or source new grade-5 fasteners before installation.
  • The brake drum is not included. Inspect your existing drum for scoring, out-of-round, or thickness below minimum spec before reuse.
  • Disconnect trailer brake wiring from the controller or 12V source before cutting or splicing wires to avoid accidental magnet activation.
  • Always replace brakes in matched pairs (left and right) on the same axle for balanced stopping performance.
  • Verify bolt pattern and center hole diameter match your axle spindle flange before installation.
