Lippert 12" x 2" Drum Brake 1-Year Warranty Lippert 12" x 2" Trailer Brake Replacement Shoe and Lining Kit -- Part 46-0813

Keep your trailer stopping safely with a complete hardware refresh. This Lippert kit replaces worn brake shoes and all associated hold-down hardware on 12-inch electric drum brakes, giving you everything needed to restore proper braking performance in a single box.

Complete Shoe and Hardware Kit for 12" Electric Drum Brakes

Trailer brake shoes wear over time from heat, friction, and repeated braking cycles. When lining thickness drops or hold-down hardware fatigues, braking performance suffers and safety margins shrink. The Lippert 46-0813 kit addresses the full brake shoe assembly at once -- no hunting for individual components or mixing brands.

Designed specifically for 12" x 2" electric drum brake assemblies commonly found on heavier trailers, fifth wheels, and toy haulers, this kit matches OEM geometry so shoes seat correctly against the drum surface without shimming or modification.

Complete Hardware Set

Includes primary and secondary shoes, hold-down pins, cups, and springs -- every part that wears with the lining.

OEM-Matched Dimensions

12-inch diameter by 2-inch width sizing matches factory drum geometry for correct lining-to-drum contact.

Paired Shoe Design

Primary and secondary shoes are included as a matched pair, ensuring balanced braking force and even drum wear.

1-Year Warranty

Backed by Lippert's limited 1-year manufacturer warranty for defects in materials and workmanship.

What Is Included in This Kit

This kit is packaged to handle a full single-wheel brake shoe replacement. Contents per kit:

  • (1) Primary Shoe and Lining assembly
  • (1) Secondary Shoe and Lining assembly
  • (2) Hold-Down Pins
  • (2) Hold-Down Cups
  • (2) Hold-Down Springs

Order one kit per brake assembly (one per wheel). A typical tandem-axle trailer requires four kits for a full axle-set replacement.

Primary vs. Secondary Shoe: On electric drum brakes, the primary (leading) shoe carries more braking load than the secondary (trailing) shoe. Replacing both at the same time maintains balanced, predictable stopping performance and prevents uneven drum wear.

Fitment and Compatibility

This kit is designed for 12-inch diameter x 2-inch wide electric drum brake assemblies. This size is commonly used on trailers and RVs in the 7,000 to 8,000 lb. gross axle weight range. Verify your existing drum diameter and brake width before ordering.

  • Fits 12" x 2" electric drum brake assemblies
  • Compatible with Lippert-brand brake backing plate assemblies using this drum size
  • Commonly used on fifth-wheel trailers, toy haulers, and heavy travel trailers
  • Not compatible with 10" x 2.25", 12" x 2.25", or hydraulic drum brake setups
Confirm Your Brake Size: Drum brake sizes are stamped on the drum or listed on the axle tag. The two most common Lippert electric drum sizes are 10" x 2.25" and 12" x 2". This kit is specifically for the 12" x 2" configuration. Verify before purchasing to avoid a return.

Installation Tips

Brake shoe replacement is a straightforward service task for anyone comfortable with basic axle and drum brake service. A few tips for a clean job:

  • Replace shoes on both wheels of the same axle at the same time to maintain even braking side to side.
  • Inspect the drum surface for scoring or heat cracks before installing new shoes. Resurface or replace a worn drum -- new shoes on a damaged drum wear prematurely.
  • Clean the backing plate anchor pins and apply a thin film of brake-rated lubricant to the shoe contact pads (never on the lining surface).
  • Check the brake magnet and wiring while the drum is off -- it is the lowest-cost time to catch a failing magnet.
  • After reassembly, perform a brake controller adjustment and road test at low speed before highway use.
Maintenance Interval: Lippert and most trailer manufacturers recommend inspecting brake linings every 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. Replace linings when thickness reaches 1/16 inch or less, or when cracking, glazing, or oil contamination is present.
Heads Up -- Drums and Magnets Not Included: This kit covers the shoe, lining, and hold-down hardware only. Brake drums, brake magnets, adjuster assemblies, and return springs are sold separately. If your drums are scored or your magnets are weak, source those components before completing the repair.

Important Information
  • This kit fits 12" x 2" electric drum brake assemblies only. It is NOT compatible with 10" x 2.25", 12" x 2.25", or any hydraulic drum brake configuration.
  • Always replace brake shoes in axle pairs (both wheels on the same axle) to prevent uneven braking and trailer sway.
  • Inspect the brake drum for scoring, cracks, or heat damage before installing new shoes. Installing new linings on a damaged drum will result in premature wear.
  • This kit does not include drums, magnets, adjuster assemblies, or return springs. Confirm all other brake components are serviceable before installation.
  • Trailer brakes are a safety-critical system. If you are not confident in your ability to perform drum brake service correctly, have the work performed by a qualified technician.
  • After installation, test brakes at low speed in a safe area before returning the trailer to highway service.
