Lippert Components Part No. 138450 OEM Replacement Lippert 138450 IDS Slide Out Controller with Wiring Harness

When your Lippert IDS slide-out room stops responding -- or moves erratically, refuses to retract, or throws a fault -- the control module is one of the first components to diagnose and replace. The Lippert 138450 is the OEM replacement controller for Lippert's IDS (In-Dash Slide) electric slide-out system, and it ships with the mating wiring harness so you have everything needed to swap out the failed unit and restore reliable slide operation.

OEM Control Module for Lippert IDS Electric Slide Systems

The IDS slide-out system is a rack-and-pinion style electric slide platform found on a broad range of towables and motorhomes built with Lippert chassis components. The controller (also called the control board or ECM) reads limit switch inputs, manages motor direction and runtime, and handles fault protection. A failed board can produce symptoms ranging from a slide that won't move at all to one that moves only one direction or triggers a fault code at the wall switch.

Lippert part 138450 is a direct OEM replacement for the original controller. It is paired with the correct wiring harness connector, eliminating the need to splice or adapt wiring at the motor or limit switch connections. Replacing the board and harness together also rules out intermittent connector faults that can mimic a bad motor.

Includes Wiring Harness

Controller ships with the mating harness -- no splicing or adapting existing connectors required for a clean, reliable swap.

OEM Lippert Part

Genuine Lippert Components part 138450 ensures correct firmware, limit switch calibration, and motor protection logic for IDS systems.

Restores Full Slide Function

Replaces failed boards causing no-movement, single-direction faults, or erratic slide behavior on IDS-equipped rigs.

DIY-Friendly Replacement

Plug-and-play design with the included harness makes this a manageable repair for mechanically inclined RV owners without special tools.

What the IDS Controller Does

The IDS slide-out controller is the brain of the electric slide room system. It receives 12V power from the coach, interprets commands from the wall-mounted switch or dash control, monitors the inner and outer limit switches to know when the slide has reached its travel endpoints, and drives the slide motor in the correct direction. It also provides overcurrent protection -- if the slide encounters an obstruction or a mechanical bind, the controller cuts power to prevent motor damage.

Over time, controllers can fail due to moisture intrusion, vibration fatigue on solder joints, or voltage spikes from the coach electrical system. When the board fails, the slide is effectively inoperable until the module is replaced.

Harness Included: Many aftermarket and third-party controller replacements require you to reuse the original harness or make custom connections. The Lippert 138450 includes the wiring harness, which is especially valuable when the original harness shows pin corrosion, damaged locking tabs, or chafed insulation from years of slide cycling.

Common Symptoms of a Failed IDS Controller

  • Slide room does not respond to the wall switch in either direction
  • Slide extends but will not retract (or vice versa) -- only one direction works
  • Slide moves a few inches then stops and requires repeated switch presses
  • Wall switch indicator light is on but slide motor does not engage
  • Slide cycles continuously past limit switch position
  • Intermittent operation that worsens in cold or wet conditions
Before Replacing the Controller: Verify 12V power is present at the controller harness, check that limit switch wiring is intact and connectors are seated, and confirm the slide motor itself is not seized or drawing excessive amperage. A motor that has failed short or locked up can take out a new controller quickly. Replacing the controller with a failed motor still in place may result in repeat failure.

Installation Overview

The IDS controller is typically mounted in a compartment near the slide mechanism or inside the coach wall cavity adjacent to the slide room. Access usually requires removing a compartment panel or interior wall trim. The replacement procedure generally involves:

  • Disconnecting 12V power to the slide circuit at the breaker or fuse before any work
  • Photographing the original harness routing and connector positions before removal
  • Unplugging all connectors from the original controller (motor, limit switches, power, switch input)
  • Unbolting or unclipping the controller from its mounting bracket
  • Installing the new 138450 controller to the same bracket location
  • Connecting the included harness to the motor and limit switch leads
  • Restoring power and cycling the slide to verify inner and outer limit positions are recognized
Limit Switch Calibration: After installing a new IDS controller, cycle the slide to the full-out and full-in positions at least once with someone observing the mechanism. The new controller will learn the limit switch endpoints on the first full cycle. If the slide over-travels or stops short, verify the limit switches themselves are functioning and properly positioned before assuming the replacement board is faulty.
Related Components: If your IDS slide system is experiencing issues beyond just the controller -- such as grinding, slow movement, or visible motor shaft damage -- consider also inspecting the IDS slide motor, limit switch assemblies, and rack gear condition. Lippert offers replacement components for the full IDS slide system.

Important Information
  • Disconnect 12V power to the slide circuit before removing or installing the controller. Working on an energized slide circuit can cause unexpected slide movement and personal injury.
  • A failed or seized slide motor can destroy a new controller. Verify motor amperage draw is within normal range before installing the replacement board.
  • This part is designed for Lippert IDS electric slide systems. It is not a universal slide controller and is not intended for Schwintek, HappiJac, or other slide-out platforms.
  • Confirm your slide system is IDS before ordering. The IDS system uses a rack-and-pinion drive with an electric motor mounted at the slide mechanism -- if your slide uses a through-wall motor and worm gear, it may use a different Lippert system and require a different controller.
  • Slide rooms are heavy. Never position yourself or others under or beside an unsupported slide room during diagnosis or repair. Use coach leveling jacks and a slide support if the room must be serviced in the extended position.
  • If the replacement controller does not resolve the issue, the wall switch, limit switches, or motor wiring should be tested before assuming the new board is also defective.
