Camco GC2 and Group 24/24M Coast Guard CFR 183.420 Compliant Camco 55374 Double End-to-End Dual Battery Box

One rugged enclosure for two batteries -- no separate boxes, no improvised strapping. The Camco 55374 keeps your RV, boat, or automotive battery bank secured, protected, and compliant in a single polypropylene shell.

Secure Both Batteries in One Enclosure

Running a dual 6V GC2 battery bank is one of the most popular RV power upgrades -- and that pair needs a proper home. The Camco 55374 is purpose-built as a single elongated enclosure that positions two batteries end-to-end in one box. No stacking, no side-by-side improvisation -- just a clean, contained installation that works as well in a boat compartment as it does in an RV battery bay.

The box also fits two 12V Group 24 or Group 24M batteries end-to-end, giving weekend warriors and truck camper owners a solid dual-12V enclosure option. Heavy-duty UV-stabilized polypropylene construction handles engine compartment heat, outdoor exposure, and the battery acid vapors that destroy lesser enclosures over time.

Dual Fitment

Fits two 6V GC2 golf cart batteries OR two 12V Group 24/24M batteries positioned end-to-end in one box.

Coast Guard Compliant

Meets U.S. Coast Guard CFR 183.420 requirements when used with GC2 batteries -- required for many marine installations.

Straps Included

Comes with 2 hold-down straps and 4 strap clamps with screws -- everything needed to secure both batteries is in the box.

Heavy-Duty Polypropylene

UV-stabilized, acid-resistant construction handles outdoor exposure, road vibration, and battery off-gassing without cracking or corroding.

Why End-to-End Matters

Side-by-side dual boxes take up more horizontal width than most RV compartments allow. End-to-end placement fits a narrower footprint -- critical for pass-through storage bays, truck bed toolboxes, and boat battery compartments with limited lateral space. The 55374 is designed around this layout so both batteries share a single lid and strap system rather than requiring two separate boxes and twice the hardware.

Full GC2 Bank, Properly Contained

Two 6V GC2 batteries wired in series give you a 12V, high-capacity flooded lead-acid bank -- the preferred setup for RVers who dry camp or boondock. The 55374 is one of the few off-the-shelf enclosures sized specifically for this pair, eliminating the need to fabricate a custom box or use ill-fitting alternatives.

Strap and Clamp System

The included straps run over the top of each battery and attach to molded anchor points on the box body. Four strap clamps with screws lock the straps in position, keeping batteries firmly seated even on rough roads or in rough water. This is not a friction-fit lid -- the strap system is the primary retention mechanism, which is why the box can meet Coast Guard retention requirements.

What Is and Is Not Included

  • Included: battery box enclosure, 2 hold-down straps, 4 strap clamps with screws
  • Not included: batteries, cables, terminal hardware, mounting hardware to attach box to vehicle
  • Box does not include a built-in lid -- the straps secure the batteries from the open top

RV, Marine, and Automotive Applications

The 55374 is used across a wide range of 12V power applications:

  • Travel trailer and fifth-wheel battery bays running a 6V GC2 series pair
  • Class A, B, and C motorhome house battery compartments
  • Pontoon boats, bass boats, and cruisers requiring CFR 183.420 compliance
  • Truck campers, cargo trailers, and off-grid power systems
  • Automotive and commercial vehicle dual-battery setups using Group 24 batteries

Installation Tips

  • Verify your battery dimensions against the interior cavity (21-1/2 x 7-3/8 x 11-3/16 in) before installing -- GC2 and Group 24 batteries from different brands vary slightly in overall size.
  • Route battery cables through the open top or any available knockouts before connecting terminals.
  • Tighten strap clamp screws firmly; re-check tension after the first 100 miles or hours of use.
  • If mounting the box to a surface, use the external base or flange points with appropriate fasteners rated for the combined weight of the box and batteries.

Compliance and Certifications

Marine ComplianceU.S. Coast Guard CFR 183.420 compliant (when used with GC2 batteries)
ApplicationRV, marine, automotive, off-grid

Compatible Batteries (Common Examples)

  • 6V GC2 -- Trojan T-105, Duracell GC2, US Battery US2200, Interstate GC2
  • 12V Group 24 -- typical dimensions approximately 10.3 x 6.8 x 9.4 in (L x W x H)
  • 12V Group 24M (marine) -- same footprint as Group 24 with marine terminals

Always verify your specific battery's physical dimensions against the box interior before purchase. GC2 batteries from different brands can vary up to 1/4 in in each dimension.

Important Information

  • Coast Guard CFR 183.420 compliance applies ONLY when this box is used with GC2 batteries -- compliance is not guaranteed with Group 24 batteries in all marine jurisdictions. Verify requirements with your local authority.
  • The box does not include a solid lid -- the open-top design relies on the strap system for battery retention. Do not use without straps installed and secured.
  • Batteries and all electrical hardware (cables, terminals, connectors) are sold separately and are NOT included.
  • Verify battery brand dimensions before ordering. While the 55374 is designed for GC2 and Group 24 sizes, oversized batteries from some manufacturers may not fit the 21-1/2 x 7-3/8 x 11-3/16 in interior cavity.
  • Do not use this enclosure with lithium (LiFePO4) batteries that require venting or thermal management -- this box is designed for vented flooded lead-acid and AGM battery types.
  • Mount the box to a rigid, flat surface rated for the combined weight of the enclosure and batteries (two fully loaded GC2 batteries typically weigh 130-140 lbs combined). Use fasteners appropriate for your substrate.
