Curt 52041 provides an independent emergency braking system for trailers equipped with electric brakes. If the trailer becomes disconnected from the tow vehicle, the breakaway lanyard pulls the switch pin and allows the onboard battery to send power directly to the trailer brakes.
The included sealed rechargeable battery is suitable for trailers with up to three axles, while the durable plastic battery case helps protect the electrical components from weather and corrosion. A 48" lanyard accommodates a wide range of vehicle-and-trailer combinations.

Curt 52041 is designed for trailers already equipped with electric brakes. It does not include trailer brake assemblies or a tow-vehicle brake controller.
The rechargeable battery can be maintained with Curt 52025 breakaway battery charger, sold separately. Curt 52040 is the corresponding Soft-Trac 1 kit supplied with the charger.

Verify that the breakaway battery is charged and inspect the switch, lanyard, wiring, and electrical connections for damage. The breakaway system should not be used as a trailer parking brake.
