Coleman Mach 1497-0871 Air Conditioner Start Capacitor - 88-108 MFD / 165V

Coleman Mach 1497-0871 Air Conditioner Start Capacitor — 88–108 MFD / 165V

OEM hard start capacitor for Coleman Mach 67 Series and 7000 Series rooftop air conditioners, including models 7433797, 7335, 7632896, 7335B692, 7632A896, and 7632B897. Rated 88–108 microfarads at 165V AC, 50/60 Hz — delivers the high-amperage burst needed to start the compressor under load.

Coleman Mach 1497-0871 Hard Start Capacitor

The 1497-0871 is the OEM hard start capacitor for Coleman Mach 67 Series and 7000 Series rooftop air conditioners. Unlike run capacitors — which maintain steady current to a motor during continuous operation — a start capacitor serves a single, brief purpose: providing a concentrated burst of electrical energy at the moment the compressor begins its startup cycle.

RV air conditioner compressors require significantly more power to start than they draw during normal operation. In situations where available shore power or generator output is limited — or where the compressor has aged and needs extra startup assistance — a hard start capacitor can be the difference between the unit starting successfully and failing to start at all. Once the compressor reaches operating speed, the start capacitor drops out of the circuit until the next cycle.

Common symptoms of a failing start capacitor include the compressor humming but not starting, the AC unit tripping the breaker at startup, or the unit struggling to start in hot weather or under low-voltage conditions. Disconnect all power and discharge the capacitor before handling.

⚡ 88–108 MFD / 165V AC

Hard start capacitor rated 88–108 microfarads at 165 volts AC — provides the high-amperage burst required at compressor startup

🏠 67 & 7000 Series Fit

Designed for Coleman Mach 67 Series and 7000 Series legacy rooftop AC units including 7335, 7433, 7632, and related sub-variants

🔌 Hard Start Function

Activates only at compressor startup — drops out of circuit once running speed is reached; does not affect continuous motor operation

🛡️ 90-Day Warranty

Backed by a 90-day limited manufacturer's warranty

⚠️ Start Capacitor — Not a Run Capacitor

The 1497-0871 is a start capacitor and serves a different function than the run capacitors used in the same units. Run capacitors (such as the 1499-5671 for the same 67/7000 Series) maintain steady current during continuous operation. The start capacitor delivers a single high-energy pulse at startup only. Verify which capacitor requires replacement before ordering — they are not interchangeable.

🔴 Discharge Before Handling

Start capacitors store a high-voltage charge and can retain it even after power is disconnected. Disconnect and lock out all electrical power before beginning any work, then discharge the capacitor through an appropriate resistor before touching terminals or removing the component. Failure to discharge the capacitor before handling can result in serious electrical shock.

🔧 Installation Note

Note all wire connections and terminal positions before removing the old capacitor. Reconnect the replacement in the same configuration. The start capacitor is wired in parallel with the run capacitor on the compressor circuit — do not confuse the two components or their terminals. Restore all panels and shroud assemblies before reapplying power and testing the unit through a full startup cycle.
