The Suburban Mfg 5286A (model IW60) is a tankless, on-demand LP gas water heater that heats water as it flows through the unit rather than storing and reheating a large tank, reducing weight and only operating when hot water is actually needed. It's sized to directly replace any 6, 10, 12, or 16 gallon Suburban tank water heater, or any 6 or 10 gallon aluminum tank model. Suburban's exclusive two-stage modulating combustion system continuously monitors inlet/outlet water temperature and flow rate, automatically adjusting LP gas input to maintain consistent hot water temperature even as demand changes.
The exterior access door and interior control are not included and must be purchased separately. When replacing a Suburban 6, 10, 12, or 16 gallon tank unit, a Suburban access panel and vent cap are required (6376APW for 6-gallon replacements, 6377APW for 10-gallon replacements). When replacing an Atwood 6 or 10 gallon unit, an Atwood access panel replacement kit and vent cap are required instead. For interior control, choose either a standard on/off switch and light, or the upgraded On-Demand Control Center for more precise temperature control - both sold separately.
This water heater supersedes the older part number 620015, and is also cross-referenced as part #5581A. Note this is the standard IW60 model without a recirculation loop; the IW60RL (with recirculation loop for faster hot water at the tap) is a separate model, sold as part #5280A.
