The Suburban LP-R524H is the horizontal vent version of Suburban's two-stage RV propane regulator with integrated shut-off valve — identical in every specification to the LP-R524V, with the sole difference being that the vent faces to the side rather than upward. The horizontal vent orientation is the standard choice for regulators mounted in the typical horizontal position, which is how most RV propane regulators are installed.
Like the LP-R524V, the LP-R524H uses a two-stage design — the first stage reduces the variable, high cylinder pressure to an intermediate 10 psi, and the second stage steps that down to the final stable 11" WC delivery pressure. This ensures consistent pressure to all RV propane appliances regardless of how full or empty the tank is. Safety features include an excess flow device that limits gas flow if a downstream hose ruptures, and an overpressure protection device that shuts off gas in the event of regulator malfunction. The LP-R524H and LP-R524V are identical regulators. The only difference is vent direction: LP-R524H (this item): Horizontal vent — faces to the side. Use for standard horizontal-mount installations, which is how most RV propane regulators are positioned. LP-R524V: Vertical vent — faces upward. Use when the regulator is mounted so the vent must point skyward. Using the wrong vent orientation can allow water to enter the vent and freeze or corrode the diaphragm — always match the vent direction to the installed position of the regulator.
If replacing an existing regulator, check which direction the vent on your current unit faces before ordering. For most standard horizontal RV installations the LP-R524H is the correct choice. If your existing vent faces upward, order the LP-R524V instead. Leak-test all connections with approved leak detection solution after installation — never with an open flame.
