RV propane parts can be confusing because the connections look similar, but they are not all the same. This guide helps you narrow the search by what you are trying to fix or connect: replacing a cracked hose, hooking up a grill, changing a regulator, adding a tank gauge, matching a fitting, or replacing an LP gas detector.
Most customers do not know whether they need an adapter, fitting, pigtail, regulator, or quick-connect hose. Start with the job first, then match the connection type second.

The fastest way to buy the wrong propane part is to match by looks alone. Identify the connection type, thread size, and whether the connection is before or after the regulator.
Use an RV propane pigtail hose. These usually run from the portable cylinder to the regulator on the front of a travel trailer or fifth wheel.
Use a low-pressure quick-connect hose. This is common for grills, fire pits, and outdoor cooking setups connected to the RV's exterior propane port.
Measure the full routing path. Do not buy a hose that will be stretched tight, pinched by a compartment door, or rubbing against sharp metal.
Match both hose ends before ordering. The most common mistake is buying the right length with the wrong fitting on one side.
The regulator reduces tank pressure to the correct pressure for RV appliances. If the regulator is not working correctly, appliances may light poorly, burn weakly, or shut down when more than one propane appliance is running.
You are trying to connect one propane connection style to another, such as POL to ACME, disposable cylinder to hose, or RV quick connect to an accessory hose.
You are repairing, capping, branching, or joining propane line components with matching thread types and sizes.

Propane detectors are safety devices and they do not last forever. If your detector is expired, chirping, damaged, or no longer powers up correctly, replace it with a compatible RV-rated unit.
Many RV LP detectors have a service life printed on the unit or listed by the manufacturer. Replace expired detectors.
Most RV propane detectors are hardwired to 12-volt DC power, but wiring and alarm combinations vary by model.
Measure the old detector and check whether the replacement covers the same cutout or requires an adapter plate.

An adapter changes one connection type to another. A fitting is usually used to join, cap, branch, or repair propane line components with specific thread sizes and styles.
Usually yes, but the details matter. Many RV quick-connect ports are already low pressure because they are after the RV regulator. If the grill has its own regulator, you may need the correct low-pressure hose or adapter setup.
It depends on the fitting type. NPT pipe threads may require LP-rated sealant, but flare fittings seal at the flare seat and should not rely on tape on the threads.
If the hose is between the tank and the regulator, it is typically high pressure. If it is after the regulator, such as an RV quick-connect appliance hose, it is usually low pressure.
Replace it if it is damaged, leaking, severely corroded, has a blocked or damaged vent, or if propane appliances show weak or inconsistent flow after other causes have been ruled out.
Follow the date and instructions on the detector or from the manufacturer. If it is expired, unreliable, or not powering up correctly, replace it.
Propane connections can be hard to identify from memory. If you are replacing an existing part, compare both ends, measure the hose length, and note whether it connects before or after the regulator. Photos of the old part and the connection points can make matching much easier.
